I know that you sweet beans don't really like art school, and I get why. I'm 22 years old and want to go back to school one last time.

I know that many of you have done similar research on countries that have more affordable art/animation school opportunities, and I'd like to compare notes I guess... and maybe find a place that has a "good" course...

I ironically my main gig right now (that pays the bills) is art and animation...

I'd given up on going to art school a while ago, until I found the animation workshop in Denmark, that happens to be tuition-free and also have a great course. I live in the UK, so the only problem is that the UK is leaving the European Union, so the art school would not be free anymore(for me)
I'd be glad to go anywhere that isn't too expensive and has a decent course.

PS: pic is unrelated lol

Go to a community college in Los Angeles county, they're cheap(for residents at least) and they have a lot of industry professionals teaching there

Colleges you should try are Pasadena City College, Mt. Sac, Fullerton College

But considering that since you're a foreigner, you probably going to pay higher tuition, its probably better to just go to Concept Design or Brainstorm academy; though if you want transferable credits, the former option is better

This, although I did hear they are super anal about admission, if you are over a certain age you just won't get in, no matter how good you are.

Also, you have to speak French. Gobelins' curriculum is in French and they have a written test as well.

If you're good and making a living from it, why study? Never pay more for learning a skill than what it pays to use it.

Ask yourself what do you exactly want to gain. A degree? Knowledge? You had enough knowledge and skill to get a job.
If you work in the studio you're probably learning something every day. If you feel it's a bit of a dead end job and want to improve maybe do some courses on side, don't throw away your source of income that is in your preferred field. Though if you're already experienced, in some cases you're gonna learn a lot and improve if you already have a discipline and skills, but if you take courses that focus on technicalities you may find yourself bored and knowing most of it. You have to analyze the situation for yourself

I'm stuck in a place that only allows me to make shitty art for money, nothing that I could spend time on... work isn't my only factor

getting a job in "art" or "animation" is dead fucking easy... but getting a GOOD job in art and animation, is a very hard thing to do. I'm not going to waste time on explaining every reason that i want to go since that is not what this thread is about.

PS: thanks to everyone, for some nice ends for me to pull on >:)

Ok it seems like you'd be better off doing some courses in the evening instead of dropping the job, it's better to earn money than to be getting into debt. Or maybe do reputable online classes, I don't really know any for animation though

That's why you make your own projects, retard.
Do the soulless jobs to get money, do the projects to get personal satisfaction.

And if your projects ever give you good results, they can become your source of income in the future.

the point of this post is looking for places that won't get me into high debt, like TAW in Denmark that happens to be tuition-free, getting cash while working a shitty job is not my priority. again, I'm not going to waste time on explaining every reason why i want to go since that is not what this thread is about. there are a milion othere threads on going to art school or not, I'm just looking for a cheap one that is also good(like TAW in denmark)

I think literally every artist I've seen talk about art school has suggested for people to not go to art school. The only exceptions have been unless it is one of the top art schools with a high percentage employment from graduation, which are usually the ones that getting scouted from Disney and big animation studios. But those schools are hard to get into and extremely expensive.

Don't waste a few years of your life because you want to go back to school. After that you're going to want to go back to before you went and make different choices.

If work isn't the factor then stop making shitty art for money. Do a different career that actually pays and spend time on art you care about.

TAW in Denmark flyes out people who work at Disney to teach classes, and is tuition-free, how I know this? I have 2 friends that go there... same goes with "die film Academie in Badenwurtenberg" where a few ex Disney animators returned to Germany to create a school... I would drop everything to attend those courses. but I would not go to an expensive place..

MESSAGE TO THE RETARDS: stop making this about going to art school or not, I have my own reasons, and it is not worth having this retard debate for the millionth time

28, I could quit my job and live solely off my (SFW) personal project backed by patreons (it's been the case for 4 years now), but I still do the soulless shit on the side because it's half the time for twice the amount.

Going to school won't magically fix things, if you don't enjoy drawing things that aren't your passion projects, then go flip some burgers, clean some plates, lay some bricks. Then get home and...

Go to bed early. Focusing on your own stuff by the morning is way more productive.

People always assume animation can be taught by themselves and done at home and I look at their animation and it is bad or super limited
That's why even in the olden days and still in Japan it is a mentor to student relationship
I'm 28 and I went to animation school to learn the TRADE, getting good at art is just a personal ambition but learning how to animate and getting draw overs is worth the money I'm spending at animation school.
You won't know what looks good if you don't have someone who knows what looks good
