My best pieces recently have been ones I did for challenges (Goth, Redraw, and I look forward to Gijinka and Rpg Party). Daily elimination challenges on the other hand... I'm getting a bit burned out from daily figures and wish I could take a break for a day or 2. I dropped out of shape design challenge and I don't think I'll be participating in the other ones because daily figures made it feel like a chore.

Drawing every day is to maintain skill and prevent forgetting things/degradation but that ultimately leads to stagnation if you don't get adventurous with what you do.

Honestly, I feel kinda scummy. My main method has always been combining a lot of references which is a valid method, but now it is starting to feel like cheating to me. I mean I constantly see posts about some pose being even a bit same and then the artist is accused of tracing. It makes me lose confidence posting anything online if someone is going to put my work under a microscope some day. And when i'll try to grind fundamentals to get better at drawing from imagination my motivation just dies.

before DAD i would go long periods without drawing at all. Even when I did draw, it would always be aimless """"studies"""". I barely made any progress for years. I also never made any finished pieces.

DAD cured all of that. I'm finishing stuff, drawing from imagination, and having more fun making art now than I ever did before. When I study something now, I have a clearer idea of how it will make my art better and that helps a lot.

My main concern right now is that most of my drawing time goes towards challenges, and I'm falling behind my study schedule. I try my best to incorporate what I'm supposed to be studying with my challenge submissions but things don't always line up.

worst-case scenario: my skill is exactly the same but I'm actually making finished pieces and working on stuff I'm passionate about.

In reality I think I've made some small progress, but more importantly, I feel like I'm finally heading in the right direction instead of going in circles.

I wasn't daily until figure drawing challenge, this shit's a fucking drag, more often I phone it in instead of making efforts toward incremental progress. I don't know how dailies keep it up for years.

Progress is slow, but I've made my peace with being a non-daily hobbyist. Posting less has helped make practice more deliberate, and I still use the challenges to push myself and have some deadlines. Right now it's so satisfying when pieces of the grind come together and start making sense.

I stopped drawing for a few years and i regressed. Its extremely depressing but i think im very slowly and painfully getting back. It sucks seeing my old drawings and feeling like I was better than I am now. I wish outside circumstances and mental health bullshit didnt get in the way because i could of been pretty good by now if i stuck with it. Im hoping to significantly improve this year because ill be drawing a lot more thanks to DAD and school.

Its making a difference when I stick with it. it can be very stressful when I have a shift at work during the submission deadline. A lot of times I will draw and not submit because i get discouraged and lose streak.

Not really, because im a impatient person when it comes to my own skill and i have a tendency to be hard on myself. I sure in a year from now ill show significant growth but right now i dont see anything because im still in the middle of the process. Also again, regression makes victories and improvement a lot less sweeter.

Challenges are helping me produce finished pieces + make me more disciplined, so id say yes. April tier tourney was especially helpful.

season is changing from spring to summer (a season I really despise with every fiber of my being) and im entering a mini depressive episode because of it. It gets really hot and im less productive and happy. im generally unhappy with my work atm. need to work on perspective, color, and composition. kind of going through the artistic equivalent of a identity crisis, but its all good.

I think I've started to enjoy learning (and drawing) a lot more as I started to seriously aim at an art career, I now feel like I have some structure and grinding 4-10 hours daily has improved my perception quite a lot

Personally, daily drawing was a hindrance when it was aimed to be posted on dad. When I took a break from dad I found that I was a lot more comfortable working on things that I sucked at, but drawing daily was a habit that I wouldn't have picked up without dad. I never really got any constructive feedback on dad, and the only comments were compliments which only give you false sense of accomplishment.

I might have made a stupid autistic deal with myself when the year started, my options now are either making it in the next year and a half, or just simply ending myself if I can't do that.
I just figured out that I might as well dedicated all of my free time and dedication to this one thing I enjoy doing and see if that gets me anywhere before actually calling it quits.
My current pace might not be enough though, but I guess we'll see, I'm content that I'm giving all I can at the moment.

I think challenges have helped me quite a lot, but I do them without submitting, I think the Frazetta one was the most helpful.

Try forums or subreddits! Look for niches and communities. Online games with forums attached also have commission boards most of the time. Try DnD or pet forums, furry spaces otherwise. Fiverr otherwise. If you're good enough for game dev stuff use game development discord groups or browse gamedev-related hubs on sites like reddit. Most of my coms come from a forum shop on a browser game, recs by former satisfied clients, and replying to job seekers on discord and reddit. Good luck bud!
