Anime/Comic conventions. You're kind of fucked in Europe tho, there's only a few big ones compared to the US and the prices are much lower. For example an 11x17 print in the US sells for $20 at most conventions, as people are used to the pricing.

In Europe people aren't gonna pay more than $10 for a print.

I work full time making backgrounds for cartoons and I make approximately 2,600 euro per month.

Our event was small, and cheap for people to get a stand at (like 20euros or something like that, barely more than entrance ticket), but I know for a fact that most people barely get back on their print and transport fees.

The best way that comes to my mind right now is Patreon. And the "easiest" way to be known is to create a porn game. Sierra Lee or Hreinn Games are good examples for quickly becoming popular and earning good cash. Just look at Nomo's art when they did the first game, I'm not saying it was shit but it was not pro level and yet it was enough to create a great coomer game and earn a lot of cash. It's on RPG Maker and free, play the game to see what I'm talking about.
