No it was advertised as a course that would give a brief introduction to the fundementals of multiple areas of art.In reality it was modern art wankery, the lecturer didn't give a shit about technical skill or even artistic style all they cared about was what the art ""represented"".

Never understood that. You drew the cube? Congrats, you can draw a house now, or an interior. It mostly just cubes inside a cube, really. Drew a sphere? Try to draw an apple, or an orange, or a peach, or a pear. Still life? Well, still lifes are just fun on itself. A cloth? Well, now you can manage a clothes and
landscape relief. And so on. The more learn the more you can draw. How is fundamentals are killing the fun? They increase that. At least it how it was to me.

Because dumb asses spend all day grinding cubes and straight lines instead of drawing what they want while learning new things to fill and improve their world. It should go like this: I want to draw a person doing X in a room but it sure would be nice to have curtains around that window. I suck at fabric so let me look at some references and give it a go. Wow, I understand and can draw fabric a little better. Rinse and repeat each time you run into something new or want to improve an aspect you are currently working on and you have exactly what you want doing want you want.

Should have just attended ateliers and life drawing classes where you actually draw. Mainstream art education is a meme.

While I believe isolated practice is actually pretty effective, your way is the way to stay motivated and keep wanting to draw.
