Overlay the ref on top of the art. If it's a 100% match in every way it's traced. Even if you've got precise measuring skills, something is going to be a little off somewhere, that's just how it is.

This is why tracers cut and paste parts of drawings or puppet warp them around to "prove" they didn't trace. If you move them back to original position they're still an exact match, though.

Yeah at that point people are going to just say it's heavily referenced and still be mad about it.

I've never seen some accused of tracing post a full WIP recording, or start streaming before they have a fully fleshed out sketch. At best they reverse engineer the painting process and take the finished paintover and blur it out/paint blobs over it more and more, and then reverse the images and post that as their "process".

Yeah that's true, there are personal afflictions that can prevent one from attending college. I agree with you that it's kinda brings disillusionment to see people studying off past finals and plug and chug their way out. But, if you are doing a degree that's even remotely challenging, you are gonna see class average at around 60-70s, maybe even lower depending on the class, or people who straight up fail to make it through the admission, and those are all so-called copy-paste ritual. Maybe dumb is a poor choice of word, I think lacking a baseline of executive functions is more applicable. It's very similar to how most people don't actually draw here.
