I wonder what trick is fooling people's brains into liking this. If this was done with good lines instead of hairy lines, would they like it as much? Other than that, it's clear that precise anatomy doesn't seem to be very important for impressing people if the "overall" look is convincing.

The reason this board emphasized staying away from actual chicken scratch is to build confidence and know when your lines actually convey form. Once you get that down you can scribble all you want because you know instinctive where the edge is in the sketch at that point.

All art is a trick. Art is the embodiment of style over substance. If it looks good and people like it then it is good, end of story. HOWEVER this certainly isn't to say you should just doodle OC donut steel your whole life and justify it as "my style", because then people would not like your art and you would be failing. At least some level of correctness is a prerequisite for looking good. But ultimately looking good is more important than being correct.

Loomis provides construction. Construction wise(eyes are level, nose/eyes/chin are on same perspective), your stuff ain't terrible. Now you've got to study the skull, facial anatomy and do head studies so your drawings look good. You'll be doing this for hundreds of hours. You can move onto the body stuff while still studying the head.

Most everyone uses similar construction for the head as Loomis, it's not unique. pic rel is mine but this intermediate level of head drawing is the result of just drawing a fuckton of heads & faces.

In the OP the biggest one is the left knee, and here it's the forearms. Why don't you finish one of these rough sketches with good lines, so you can define the form you did for real and you can see things more clearly

Read The Complete Guide to Anatomy for Artists & Illustrators by Gottfried Bammes. Also check out RockHe Kim's Anatomy Drawing Class. You can find both in the artbook thread. Besides that, just keep doing what you're doing and keep drawing every day. You're only 6 months in. Keep the vision alive.

I find that using contour lines on the cloth surface to show the form of the folds helpful. The lines would then show where the bumps and crevices are. But really though, the best way to render clothes is with light and shadow. Lines don't effectively do shit.t

How do you make tablet drawing not feel super weird after having used paper.
I'm used to making tiny markings on paper with a pencil but when i use a small brush with the tablet it feels like i'm having a stroke as you can see in the image. It's the same zoom level i used when drawing.
I have been using way fatter brushes as a crutch and it always looks awful and it makes adding details impossible, am i just supposed to keep going until i get even close to how well i could draw on paper or is there just something i'm not getting here.
I disabled smoothing and it helped a bit.

first, small screen take the space from your software, hand and you will have something lees than 4x4 inchs and if you are using a ref even less jfc, then you have the durability of the battery you will most likely have to use it plugged to a charger half of the time, rechargable pen yikes, only like 3 programs good enough but everyone uses proreate, a pc offers way more in all senses, anyway if you still want that after knowing this, is up to you, the huion brand is still not as good as wacom, i switched from a huion to a wacom despite hating wacom but i had to admin that wacom is far better in acuraccy, sensivility and sofware at least from the model i had the 1060plus.

If you really want to practice your digital drawing skills but really don't want to draw digitally then please do that.

The only answer to that is "it depends" Anon.

Paper has the advantage of being more limited and thus forcing you to be more resilient with your mistakes. It is also cheaper and simpler. But at the same time as said, it is limited, so it will be harder and you will have much less room for error. If you want to go on more quality stuff you will need to buy more equipment and things.

Digital has the advantage of being the "high end" so if you practice there it also gets you familiar with the software and its functions and it the insane options it can do. If you end goal is digital then familiarizing yourself with software and its functions is better. On downside it can be overwhelming at first, you need the hardware and software and ton of "quality of life" functions software gives you might make you rely on them as a crutch. The keyword however is "might" it does not mean it will stunt your growth forever.

At the end of the day whichever you like/have access to/needed for your long term goals.

This is false, the only barrier between digital and traditional is that digital sometime has different approaches to the same problems and you need to learn the functions of the software you are using which can be daunting. But basic knowledge of visual arts translates almost 100%, I mean digital tools were created to replicate the traditional tools and make them more comfortable. If they would not be able to do that then nobody would use them.

A friend asked ironically for some explicit art of their OC so I tried but best I could do was suggestive.

No shit. Gesture is the hardest part and there's a reason people say it takes practice and isn't just going crazy with lines. Because when you get it down, you become one of those people that you probably marveled at, how they could just quickly sketch a picture in a few minutes.

Keep at it, and remember to think basic shapes and flow. Proportions are not the main point of gesture drawing. If you do it right, it should still look dynamic and stylized.

Though keys to drawing is pretty much better in every way.
I think it's fine to draw from imagination even as a complete beginner but you should really draw from reference of life as well, you'll need the experience.
Also you should look up the basics of how to use a pressure sensitive tablet, it looks like you're not using pressure sensitivity at all, which makes a tablet not much better than a mouse.

Yeah figuring out pressure sensitivity can be a pain in the ass especially in the beginning when you're not really familiar with anything.
Could be a couple of things, keep in mind that there's not only pressure settings in the tablet settings but in the settings of the program you use as well.
Sometimes pressure sensitivy isn't even enabled in the program for whatever reason.
Drivers could also be an issue when I first started out digital my dad bought me a really shitty off-brand tablet that didn't have driver support, so I had to get third-party one's to even make it work.
Fiddle around a bit and search for some vids on youtube about it and you should be able to figure out what the problem is.

I think you just got sensory overload. If you actually look at It it is competent but not extraordinary. If one study ass for some time, simple shading and anatomy, overlay on pants. it's nice and I'm most likely incapable to pull of something this level but it not something beyond human after some practice.
