Hey Procreate users, it's ya boy Anon here, with another thread for sharing premium Procreate brushes. You may remember me as the OP of this previous thread >>4367744

I've reorganized my MEGA folder so now there's just 1 link and you can peruse everything easily. These brushes have been acquired from various places, including fellow anons. Some of the brush creators included in my MEGA folder are:

>MaxPacks
>True Grit Texture Supply
>Frankentoon
>Ink Gang Boss
>RAZUM_INC
>DAUB
>Bardot Brush

Have a look and take what you want:

https://mega.nz/folder/PshhBSoS#FceqRSy9BA8s0-bRwWdlFg

Feel free to request brushes in this thread, too. We had great luck with this in the previous thread thanks to some helpful anons.

As for me, I'm on the lookout for the Dead Subtle, Fast Grit and Stipple Studio brush sets from True Grit Texture Supply, so if you have them I'd really appreciate it if you'd share them here. Thanks!

Thanks OP, I just got an ipad today and didn't really want to pay for a bunch of shit without knowing if I'd even want to use it first.

Procreate seems okay, I'm not crazy about most of the default brushes but hopefully something here will help with that. I'm also thinking of getting ArtStudio because I've heard it's pretty good.

The biggest hurdle so far is probably that I've never owned an Apple device and getting used to everything is taking a while, but once I get the hang of all the gestures and so on and stop accidentally trying to press ctrl+z it seems like working on it will be pretty smooth.

I wouldn't rule out all the default brushes just yet, even though there are a lot of them that aren't really anything special. Still, some of them are pretty neat, especially had some success with the airbrushes and some brushes from the painting section (Spectra comes to mind, for example). One of the things I did when I started out some weeks ago was download so many different brushes that I didn't even try out the default ones properly, even though they still have some pretty decent ones. So I would say, don't knock them just yet and give some of them another chance still.

There are mobile versions of Photoshop and even Clip Studio, but Procreate is vastly more popular for art on the iPad. There's a learning curve if you're coming from a traditional wacom or even a display tablet for sure. After a few days it's fine. I actually like how slick it is although I wish the Pencil had interchangable tips to alter the friction instead of having to resort to a screen protector which degrades visual quality. The wacom felt tips have good grip but I imagine they could scratch the screen over time. But softer plastic nibs should be an option.

I use the supershieldz matte ones on amazon. You get 3 for like 9 bucks. Yeah it distorts the images with an ever so slight rainbow effect but it’s not significant. The texture it provides is worth the almost non existent trade off. They’re cheap enough to determine for yourself so honestly just try it and make your own decision.

its very clear, and drawing on it is just as easy as if you drew without it. it feels good gliding the apple pencil across the screen despite being a glass screen protector, smooth and silky. i dont have any trouble with the pen pressure, or hand gestures.

its perfect in this case because i have cats who wanna attack my screen alot; im also a little accident prone.

>I doubt it offers much or any protection
That doesn't really make sense in relation to what anon was saying. It does prevent the screen to get scratched, there is no way you could scratch your screen when drawing with one...
Now if you mean, would it protect the screen if you were to drop your iPad on a sharp object or something? Yeah that wouldn't help by a whole lot.

Drawing without a screen protector of any kind is indeed leaving you open to get your screen scratched no matter how careful you are. Even if the pencil cannot technically scratch your screen, if dirt gets between the tip and the screen, then scratching can occur. This is how micro-scratches happen.
Some people don't care about them but myself being meticulous ("OCD" if you will), there's no way I would use my iPad without anything on it.
I personally use the Bellemond paperlike screen protector and I rather enjoy it. It does alter the visual but I got used to it and unless you're looking at a white page it's not that noticeable (for example when watching videos/series on it). I'd prefer not having altered visuals at all of course but the tech isn't there yet I suppose.

Is buying an iPad the wrong choice if I'm mainly looking to draw line art?
Hard to find an unbiased reviews on Apple products, but it seems procreate is more for painting and clip studio is supposedly a bad port from the PC version?
Would appreciate if anyone could give an opinion on this.

>> No.4529060

>>4529040

its heavily based on your preference, actually!

ipads are good for people who dont like to sit at the computer all day to draw. its good for people on the move, people who want to sketch, paint or doodle on the go.

imo ive have more fun in procreate doing lineart than actually painting as ive yet to figure out how the mixing brushes work properly enough to brave making a painting.

clip studio on the ipad seems the same to me as my clip studio on the computer, though i only have the trial on the ipad because i already bought procreate and am unsure if i should buy a subscription-based app if i can use procreate to do the same things.

if youd rather stay in one place when you draw digitally, then maybe a pad tablet or display tablet that plugs into your computer is more up your alley?

theres alot of good tablets out recently that are budget priced; parblo a910pro, huion inspiroy series (though i wouldnt attempt the dial one, it has a textured surface that REALLY grinds the pen nibs down...)

even some of the older wacom models are shaped up to be pretty decent to this day! it all depends on what your lifestyle is like

One of the reasons I was contemplating on getting an ipad was that everyone is saying that they're rivaling wacom tablets, and the other is that I could use it for college (pdf on big screen, taking notes digitally and having a camera).
I'm sure there's many good tablets out there, but I've saved a lot of money to get a really good one, I wanna go all or nothing.
If the file management/drawing software on ios isn't cutting it, I'll probably fall back an intuos pro with photoshop.

>>4529067
I'm also still not sure if I wanna get an apple product, costs for repairs could pay for a new tablet, and the official keyboard is around 200 bucks (lol).

it's the nature of the materials used that are geared more for finger navigation rather than plastic-on-plastic, making it harder to maintain control. reducing the hardness of the screen is a non-starter as it would pick up scratches incredibly easy. and the dilemma with the Pencil is that if you make the nib too soft, you risk having small particles stick to it and then you're REALLY scratching up your ipad screen. i've got a gaomon screen display and yeah it's easier to get the lines i want but there's way more friction when i drag my finger over it, something that would make a tablet really unpleasant to use for an extended time.

Quick question. Beginner here (I'm terrible) been looking at getting a cheap drawing tablets. Then the price kept creeping up further and further and higher.

Now I'm looking at an ipad pro because it doubles as an ipad pro. My questions:

1) is an ipad pro overkill? I don't really see any apps that support the specs at all. Also should I get the biggest screen?

2) I have a windows pc. I assume that the ipad is still set up to run like absolute shit on windows so things like duet barely work right?

>>4536890
>1) is an ipad pro overkill? I don't really see any apps that support the specs at all. Also should I get the biggest screen?

What do you mean? overkill for what? For just drawing? maybe, but you can use it for other stuff.

>2) I have a windows pc. I assume that the ipad is still set up to run like absolute shit on windows so things like duet barely work right?

Why do you want to run it like that? This thread is for the ipad app Procreate, which is a drawing program. I dont see a point to using on windows. If you really want to use windows just get a cheap wacom or something.

I mean I haven't even really seen anything the pro can do that that the other models can't. I mean I've seen videos of people using the lowest speced iPad and it might have some lag on strokes but I could probably just go one spec up right?

2) well the second part was kind of general use question I guess. Like I'm going to be limited by the usefulness of the iPad due to the fat that I'm using windows? I guess I phrased like a dickhead. If I want to run a drawing program on windows, it's not like the ipad would be very useful with something like another drawing program right? Since the ipad isnt that great at being used AS a tablet on a windows pc?

I was asking the question in this thread because I know there's a lot of ipad users in this thread and I didn't think my question was important enough to start its own thread.

Sorry man.

ease of use and accessibility are pretty big points to consider. with the ipad you can draw on the couch, bus, lunch break, etc. you can be improving all the time instead of just when you're at your pc.

The reason most go for the pro is because procreate locks the number of layers you have based on ram. If you have a non pro or specific older models it las lower ram so you can’t have as many layers

i got an expensive stand thing because i used the ipad pro for like 12 hours a day and my fucking back was sore as hell from craning over. the one i got is called drafttable. the whole thing reeks of s*y and i'm sure there are cheaper options but i recommend some kind of stand so you don't become the hunchback of notre dame

i advise against getting the 12.9 and actually taking it anywhere. it has a bad habit of bending. either get the smaller one, or get a second cheap non-ipad tablet for note taking for like 100 bucks.

>> No.4545473

> is an ipad pro overkill?
no
the ipad pro is the only good ipad for drawing due to its screen having a 120hz refresh rate and no parallax. however the 1st generation ipad pro (2015 model i think) is crap. the 2nd through 4th generations are all good. if you can't afford the pro model, genuinely just draw on paper over drawing on a regular ipad

>Also should I get the biggest screen?
yes, under the proviso that you don't want to take it anywhere - if you want to actually take your ipad places get the smaller one, is has exponentially lower chance of bending

I will intervene and say the ipad air 3 is an excellent middle ground. It's light, has a 10.5 screen, and is laminated unlike the other non pro models. Yes it does have 60 hz and lower ram, but 60 hz is perfectly fine for drawing and the ram thing is only an issue if you're a digital artist who needs to create a new layer for every single new drop of color. It supports gen one of the apple pen

The parallax isn't that big of a deal considering you can get a 3GB RAM 10.2" for 270$.

On the other hand >>4545574 the iPad Air 3 is seriously overpriced for what it is. You basically pay 200$ more just to get a laminated screen (which is prone to white spot) and that's it, since A10->A12 means nothing for artists (procreate never lags on my 10.2"). Also the iPad Air is to be upgraded soon.

If you're on a budget and want to try what Procreate is like then the base iPad is a good choice, then down the road you can get a Pro model.
