Tablets with a screen are much faster to use than screenless ones, even if you configured it correctly and had plenty of practice.
Yes, being slower is unfortunately normal.

I have the same problem. I bought a screenless tablet and it sucks, so I used it for a few hours and went back to traditional. I'm not touching digital until I can afford a tablet with screen.

Confirmed, screen tablets make you faster and better.
Tried going back to my old small intuos cause I was nostalgic for it and it was kind of weird to use. Even considered buying a newer medium sized one but in the end I chose to stop being a retard

I could buy one of every chink tablet for the price of a small intuos.
Not falling for the wacom meme.

Seconded. As a long time Frostposter, I'm curious.

I get through traditional projects faster because I focus on them more fully and plan things much better. In digital I know it's much easier to fix mistakes so I'm less autistic about planning pieces out, which means I'm pissing around with them a lot until I find something I like.

nothing is as fast as pencil and paper
personally hate drawing in digital from scratch, takes me far longer than traditionally

The brand that literally invented the drawing tablet.

You are not alone. Tablets are fucking SLIPPERY. I originally had a normal one and I thought it would be different with a pen display but no, the sensation of having no control over the pen as opposed to the stability granted by the friction in paper remained the same

It's expensive. Really expensive. If you're going to git gud you can git gud on a less expensive tablet and if you really enjoy drawing then you can get a 500$ tablet. The amount of people on e-bay that sell their wacoms for half the price because they never got used is depressing.

It’s common, and a lot of bad tablets have “drag” as well. The one with the least drag while having the right amount of sensitivity I’ve used was a 15+ year old screenless Intuos2, which I prefer to cintiqs (of all sizes). The cintiqs have a lot of drag and overheat so I didn’t like it.

A happy medium for me was an iPad Pro 12’9. It’s the most similar to drawing traditionally and doesn’t have the drag and overheating problem that a cintiq has. It barely has drag at all IME. You can also carry it around like a sketchbook and do other stuff on it. I think it’s worth saving up for.

Facing the same issue as well. Glad people are finally speaking about it honestly.

with the screenless tablet, you can tape a somewhat thick paper so its not as slippery. wears out the nibs a lot faster tho
