IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>No rules lol
/int/s please respond
/beg/inner posting is encouraged.
Every point of view is valid even if you were a day into art.
You MUST give advice and/or critique other people's work in order to have healthy interactions with each other so we all can make it.

>Before you post your work
1. It's true that the sticky is a bit outdated and most people don't care for reading it or even do the excerise of the upside down Stravinsky so if that is your case you've come to the right place,
people in here is waiting for you to post your work and give you proper advice. In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are strongly discouraged since it doesn't help anybody to get better.
We DON'T expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we DON'T expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
We are happy to provide you those tools in this thread.

2. DO POST your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. It doesn't really matter if you're asking for a SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject. You might as well post no text whatsoever along with your work.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", meme replies such as "Loomis" are strongly discouraged, we don't make fun of one and other here.

Follow these simple rules or maybe not but always remember to be nice to /beg/s and the people giving advice at all times.

Honestly I'm into it. Might be good to get some varied weight to your lines, especially since you have a bold style you could go pretty heavy with it. Your colour choice isn't bad but also isn't helping the image much imo, some more colour theory applied to it could make it pop even more.

You only have to learn the placement, and the rough shape. This will help you to understand what you're drawing when using reference, which I'll assume to be skinny girls. This shouldn't take more than a couple of days. And if you forget something you can go reference the anatomy book.

You don't really want to compare yourself to anyone else because it's guaranteed to get you down and put you off. My much younger sister is so much better at art than me that it made me never want to draw again (as pathetic as that sounds).
Once I realized I should be comparing what I do now to what I did then, rather than what someone else can to compared to what I can do, it encouraged me to continue because you can see the improvement. Whenever you see improvement it automatically encourages you to continue doing what you're doing.
It's also important to remember that, while there are people who are naturally better at some things that others, a lot of things people are good at never came naturally to them. It came after a lot of hard work and dedication to the craft, whatever it is, itself.
I have faith in you. We're all gonna make it.

it's flat because goku is drawn as if he was poorly painted onto a wall.

the facial features aren't properly wrapped around his head.

th anatomy is broken and stuff.

the only thing that isn't fundamentally very broken is his power pole on his back. the ellipses showcase depth. the difference between the pole and everything else also exposes how bad the rest is.

basically, the draftsmanship is very poor. work on fundamentals like anatomy, perspective and figure drawing. even if you're going for something stylized liked dragonball, look at toriyama's work, it's fundamentally sound, all his figures look like they exist in 3d space.

pic related is an old goku doodle i did. Is it great? nope. Is it exactly the same level of stylization you going for? nope but I don't think it's as flat as your image.

Here's an image by Toriyama. Both the proportions of adult and kid goku are not far off from the proportions you'd find in a Loomis book. Most of his stylization is in the face but even so, the features are drawn as if they fit inside an actual skull, they have perspective etc.

Study real anatomy, real figures. Do that for a couple hundred hours and you should see a big improvement when going back to more stylized stuff.

Use your pencil, finger or other stuff to measure, you dont need to follow the 1/3rd and other proportion rules perfectly, because then you will always make perfect faces, and those are boring.
Its small changes to the proportions, that makes a face more human and believable, also more interesting.

This is pretty much the best model drawing I can do in under 20 minutes. I see things off about it. The right bicep goes into the shoulder, the area under the right knee has a gap below it, the left upper thigh sticks out to far, and obviously the hands, feet and head are place holders. What should I specifically try to grind to improve? Is the base anatomy good enough to start focusing on hands, feet or face? Is the gesture to stiff? What would be the most effective thing to grind for long term improvement?

Someone please help me out. I'm lost and I just wanna get better with rendering.
This is a value study I just finished, ended up spending a bit over an hour on it.
I used CSP and the transparent watercolor brush and it's probably the extent of my rendering abilities right now.
I want to be able to do so much more, but I just feel like I'm only making mistakes when I attempt to do anything other than a hard round and simple 2-3-tone artwork.
I can't render my work the way I want to and that goal fuels me to keep going, but like I said I'm lost and aimless with my efforts and I've been going in circles not making any meaningful progress for what feels like weeks now.
I have no idea what I'm supposed to do to get to where I want to be.

Also do you guys have anything to help me out with my brushwork?
I'm really concerned about how messy the edges of the strokes look, and I feel like I took way too many and too long to get that result.
I often ended up going back over past strokes a ton, and really struggled to get some of those soft edges in there and sometimes it felt like a stroke that landed in a way I liked happened due to a bit of luck.
I expect that as I continue to practice some of these things will become refined over time, but if there's anything else that could help me out here I'd be glad to know.

Nowhere but clueless people's minds, images depicting underage nudity aren't illegal (to possess) in and of themselves either, unless there's a clear focus on the genital or anal area which would make the image lascivious/pornographic (unless you're a doctor and the image is for medical purposes) thus being classified as CP. Production and distribution (including online uploading) of such images (even if not meeting CP criteria) is another story as even if not pornographic, they could be deemed exploitative and it gets more complicated on this issue.

I was practicing last night bros and I had the weirdest feeling in my head as this thing started coming together. it was like all of a sudden I realized that the human body has actual planes to it, that's what makes us three dimensional objects. thats what my anatomy teacher meat when she was talking about "lateral" and "dorsal" and stuff lol.

I looked up anatomy refs so I could get some torso and arm muscles. it was a really weird feeling, there was this really intense pressure in my brain. I can't believe how simple layering these muscles together were. i know how i have a long way to go, the shapes are super off and I know that its not proportionate. there's no vanishing line or whatever to keep it in proper view.

but I'm weirdly proud of this. I know its bad but this shitty piece is a really big deal for me because now its like I can really "see" the 3dness of the body.

i don't have the vocabulary for this i'm sorry for being a retard. I'm working on another practice drawing that I'll post in a minute.

Okay, giving up on this. I don't understand arms or foreshortening. Everything looks like a mess because I tried fifty different fist variations to no effect. It was a mistake to go for a dynamic pose at my level, I'll practice more arms in neutral stances and try again later.

Shadow should be used to define form, don't just shade an entire area in a flat color if it has form, especially not with straight lines going across the area, brings the whole thing back. If you want to use a crosshatching shading method, look at some references for how directional hatching can be used to dictate form.

When it comes to the basic shapes, is recreating the same shape SUPPOSED to be hard? Just what level of fidelity is "enough"? You were probably just going through the ritual of drawing Loomis construction lines and then ignoring them and drawing whatever you wanted on top of them.
If you don't have an understanding of why you're drawing every line of every step in the process and how it's going to help you, you either need to study/practice more or maybe modify the method to suit your needs better. Different people like different construction methods.
While you're grinding fundies you should be doing lots of drawings from imagination that apply the lessons and use the exact same process that you intend on always using whenever you draw from imagination. If you have fundies time on the one hand and then you put that aside and go "ok time to wing it now and see what comes out" then you're missing the point. Basically, what you describe shouldn't happen if you're studying properly.

What are some good resources to learn how to get better at acrylic painting. Took a class on it a while back and want to get back into it.

I saw books on it in the sticky, but I'm unsure how useful it may be to someone who doesn't know how to property use brushes correctly.
Also I prefer visual demonstrations.
