Most serious artist communities are unabashedly centrist, where you're an outcast for leaning too heavily to the left or right. Very little of the diversity you see will be genuine/sincere. The smartest thing for a businessman to do (and you're supposed to be one) is to be professional and as politically bland as unbuttered bread. Don't air your laundry in the middle of the town square. Talk politics with the artist friends you make along the way, and if you make a name for yourself you'll be able to say anything, but behind closed doors and away from public eyes.

Look at Mel Gibson and try to avoid his mistakes. As high profile and controversial he is, he got away with this:
