occident just lose the battle, now all the important cultural characters are from Asia manga/anime. We just see the last remains of the more iconic characters here, like the classic marvel and dc characters, they are the only ones of that industry.
Maybe if in this side of the world we start use the same method that people use in japan, and just start pushing the base production industry, and then power-up that with massive marketing like animated series, movies, etc.
I know that a lot of underground comics out there are far enough decent to make them a cartoon series or movies, they are there in some place, but here the industry is dominated by those big that don't wanna lose their power. So we only have that the few opportunities are in.. kids shows, and is very limited. I'm from another country and the only "big" characters that i have seen in the last decades have been the majority only of shows focused on children, i could count on a hand perhaps the ones that falls out of that category

My biggest issue is not the obvious identity politics in that twin duo, but the fact that these characters come off as outdated. Something that came from the 2006 Marvel comic Runaways about a bunch of drifter teens in the Marvel universe. These characters have names that sound like they were ripped from a children’s cartoon where the main characters are talking about their favorite superhero comics. In short, these names sound too niche and gimmicky. Now, Spider-Man isn’t an award winning title, but modern superhero names are either way more crazy like Kid Gladiator, Adolf Impossible, Floating Paper Man, or more relaxed like Glob Herman or Ikari, Snot or Sun Girl .These characters are both too outdated,come off as parody, and their names are more like commercial slogans than names

The vast majority of these characters are boring, but the beast boy lookalike does seem like he could be interesting with a redesign and personality shift. For example, they could take the whole wired up to the internet shtick down the freakazoid path, and use it to contrast between the "internet persona" and whatever his real personality may have been. Or use him to show the hivemind nature of the internet. Don't know about the others, they seem like they were simply made in a vain attempt to cash in on modern trends instead of simply attracting audiences with good storytelling and art.

Shonen is just a demographic. It's not a genre like superheroes or family guy sitcoms. Even then just the shonen manga themselves have been way more varying and substantial than Marvel/DC (which is for some reason viewed as the western equivalent to shonen manga in this thread) has been for who knows how fucking long.

People have this weird notion where they think shonen is a genre and every manga that's ever published on a shonen demographics magazine are just dragonball style battle manga. Bakuman is technically shonen. Slam Dunk is technically shonen. Star of the Giants is technically shonen. I don't fuckin understand

I like the darker colors on the two on the top right, and moving the mohawk on the vamp was a good idea. Gives him the "punk" vibe they were going for while making half his head look like Count Orlok. Excellent.
