But that doesn't mean shit, they took some ideas from the west and made them their own. Right now 2d animation has completely died in the west and only exists in Japan, the west has completely lost the entire tradition and the people who used to do it are retired or dead. The western cartoons are fucking dead forever except for some experiments that directly copy the Jap anime like Avatar, Wakfu and others.

The west may have invented cartoons. But then they fucked up so hard they are copying it from the Japanese now.

And the cool cartoons from the 90s were copying Akira and GITS, not the other way around.

Other than just being the first ones to do it, there is nothing remarkable about western animation. From the start to finish, western animation never tried to be anything more than cheap entertainment for children and it was Japan that pushed the medium to progress.

When the west gets a disney budget they just churn out a disney film. When Japan gets a disney budget they made Akira.
