Alright here's some advice for the dads that are going to do the frazetta challenge. First things first, yea I got the date wrong and thought you had to do the challenge the day it's made so you can't cheat, funny right.

-This is going to take a long ass time, much more than you think so plan your day accordingly. Don't fuck around with youtube playlist trying to find the best song to listen to and shit like that. Just put some ost on and let autoplay do it's thing.
-Lower your tablet sensitivity! Ideally you want to be using the least amount of pressure to make a line otherwise your hand will hurt really bad a couple of hours in. Or you a brush with no pressure settings.
- Don't get lazy just because you are getting close to the end. All the difficult stuff is after page 150~ and if you start to take it easy you wont be done in time.
- Don't expect to become some sort of art god after finishing this, if it was that easy it wouldn't be fun. That being said different people will benefit in different ways from this challenge. For me it pretty much got rid of my anxiety of drawing people.
- Don't even bother trying to get the hatching the same it would take way to long and burn you out super fast. The goal isn't to make a pretty picture.
- Don't undo, just get it right the first time. Take longer for each stroke if you have to but just keep it because if you get in to the mode of ctrl + z until it looks good you'll never get it done.

In my opinion everyone should give this a go, it might not make you any better at drawing but it will for sure make you realize all the things you suck at and at the very least will teach you some discipline and how to power through an image. Good luck dads

I work with a lot of women who don’t have/want kids and they also have to deal with these assholes.

I'm feeling confused about how to approach art lately. Should I be studying fundies every day? Doing perspective exercises, figure studies, gestures, etc? Or is that the path of the /ic/ grinder who never makes anything? Studies and fundies are obviously vital to making good artwork, but how much of that shit should I be doing on a daily basis? In my experience and observations, grinding works well as a remedial course, but it shouldn't be everything you do. Do focused studies on stuff you want to make quick improvements in, but always be making original pieces as well. Original pieces help you solidify your studies into your mind and put your skills to the test, so you have a real idea of how good you are and what else you need to improve in.

That didn't seem to be as big a deal. I picked up six cases of Deja Blue from WinCo, but only because that's the cheaper brand my wife likes the taste of. There was pe=lenty of other water to be had - even at CostCo.

I'm not hating on Naf but he'll probably stagnate for 2 reasons. 1.) He's already an advanced artist, going from beginner to intermediate is one thing but going from advanced to mastery is a lot lot harder. I want tier lists, and critiques, and insight into who's getting better or worse, but not because I care about measuring up to anyone else, I just want to know how people honestly perceive my work. I can't post my name or people will either troll or coddle me, it's too unreliable here. But group reviews and tier lists are easier to trust, the troll and asspat ones are obvious and dismissable.

I look at my stuff all day so it's hard to understand how strangers would approach it. There's a value in those review things beyond the drama, that's just the knee-jerk part. But is there a better way to get real feedback without some people getting upset or hurt along the way?

Style can be broken down into different levels

This is what alot of people think a style is, drawing something in a particular way knowing that it's not realistic, however at this level it's just avoiding drawing things you have difficulty with. extremely amatuerish and a bad habit to have

>Level 2 - Natural style
This is what you naturally develop after years of drawings, say you find long boney hands more pleasing to draw than chubby ones, your style will include that and it will be done skillfully. This style isn't done fully consciously and an artist at this level can't draw any other style

>Level 3 - Purposefully Stylized
This is only achieved by analysing what you're drawing and purposely making decisions to convey your message in the best way possible with the style. It can't be done naturally

I'm by no means actually good at multiple things but I'm fairly versatile and switch around styles a lot. I'll try and answer this. It mostly has to do with purpose and fundamentals. A style is a visual language. People usually default to a certain way of drawing when they doodle, but once you put thought behind your design you start making different decisions than the ones you usually make. Any fairly competent designer will know how to draw realistically (aka from life) because they have studied it, while explicit style switching happens when thinking about what you're trying to convey with what you're doing. Let's say I'm working on a western cartoon as a character designer or prop artist. I start thinking about a project pipeline, whether the design will be animated in 3d or 2d, ease of manipulating the character's forms, what each shape conveys etc, etc. More competent and senior artists usually also have a larger range of influence and much more varied visual libraries that help them adapt for different projects.

I feel like I sent to end it all. This year has been so awful.
I just dont know how to kill myself without making my family sad.

I get comments all the time, and I don't understand why.
I really don't deserve them. There are better artists who can make better use of their feedback. Its not like I'm not sincerely trying to put their tips into practice, it just feels like decent people are wasting their time on a braindead, awkward moron who will never amount to anything.

Apart from a few notes/doodles I'm on a break from studying right now, spent the last 4 hours reading and trying to understand one of these drawing books, I'm probably going to carry on after I get some food and chill for a bit, with the plan of either working back through some sections after I've finished reading it to cement the knowledge, or just using it as a reference to look back on and apply to my own OC.

FZD is truly amazing with how they always update their jobs page. It's weird to see how all of their students go to such varied places and also very recent and top tier places. Every time I check, it's different. Not sure if the names change since they likely have had hundreds of students by now. Although, the latest group seems kind of small.
