I believe I have made this clear in a previous thread, but not on the site itself, but obfuscation of submissions is not permitted unless you have another submission or unhidden part of the obfuscated submission that constitutes 30 minutes of work. Additonally, if a censored portion of your submission is necessary to satisfy the conditions of a challenge, it cannot be counted. Lastly, I strongly discourage the practice as it is antithetical to the pathos of the site, which is being able to mutually share and observe each others' daily work and progress. To that end, a fully blurred or hidden submission is just as useful as no submission at all.

I will issue warnings to individuals who have breached this new rule and add it to the site after work (as this policy hasn't been clear, historically). Please link me the relevant submissions you are talking about.

I think it'd be really silly to force people working under NDA to do an additional 2 hours for the challenge when they already do 30min for the regular daily submission.

Please don't read into it much I was just trying that as a way to try and make it easier for people that cannot show stuff under the harsher banana stance as it was designed similarly to the last one and he didn't say anything on people posting blurry pics back then.
The post your timers once a week relies heavily on trust and them being forced to tick and post anything missing on the last day, just trying to make it as easy and safe as possible for people, especially when they do the work but they don't have time to add the timer before the submission time.

Honestly, especially if someone's already been drawing regularly for some time, a blurred image every now and then should be fine, as long as it's not a daily thing.
Also, if blurring is not ok, I'd say submissions in ant size should also not be allowed. Some of Nyroc's submissions are probably not even above 200x200, a size at which it is incredibly hard to tell just what is going in

The one time that I did a coom commission, I was so repulsed by the content of the request and the requester's autism that I swore I'd never accept another one again. The end.

Let's talk about hidden / timer-only / blurred submissions for a bit.

We've sort of gone back and forth on this topic a fair bit and I've heard valid arguments on both sides.

People advocating for blurred submissions for the purposes of maintaining your streak assert that it's still in the spirit of the site: the work has been done, it's just obfuscated. The reasons can vary from "it's an NDA project and I want to have my time count for it regardless", or "I don't feel good about my work and wouldn't submit otherwise."

However, on the flip side, and the side of the camp that I personally sit on is that blurring submissions is sort of in opposition to the goals of the site which is exposing the gritty, non-glamorous day-to-day work in pursuit of self improvement. Moreover, this adds another layer to the "honor system", and I really don't think I have the capacity to vet out what is legitimate and what is not. Also, if your concern is that your submission "isn't good enough", I maintain that not everyone has a good day, nobody's perfect and we have plenty of beginners, and part of the barrier to improvement is exposing your work to members of a like-minded community. DAD is relatively safe compared to a lot of art communities, and you should take it as an opportunity to receive critique or reflect on what went right and what went wrong. Lastly, it might actually be a violation of NDAs to post even blurred content, and I really don't want to get tangled in that particular web if it gets discovered somehow.

Lastly, I want to clarify two things. One, each set of daily (or whatever period) submissions must be 30 minutes of total work. Two, submission to a challenge in a designated time period should also qualify as 30 minute of effort, minimum, otherwise, the challenges has no merit (i.e., why the twelve month productivity challenge was removed).

That's my thoughts at least, and I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter before I finalize a decision.

That is technically acceptable under the rules of "you need to provide 30 minutes of work per posting period", but if you submit something to a challenge that you obfuscate then the line gets a bit blurred.
While technically the only requirement is that you draw for two hours and attach the relevant timers, again, we are relying on trust when the attached drawings are not visible.

I think there's one important thing to be made clear here (as I have there): if blurring is permitted for one reason, it's going to have to be permitted for any reason. We already operate on a trust system, and it would increase vulnerability towards conflicts of interest or bias for me to deliberate specifically on the topic of whether or not a user is "trusted" enough for them to post blurred work to maintain their streak. I cannot objectively perform a judiciary role in this, so when a policy is established it will have to be either "we allow blurred submissions" or "we don't allow blurred submissions".

If I mis-remembered, well that's my bad. After the feedback I'm planning on making late join for None challenges the default not just an option. Either way though, you won't be able to late join streak-based challenges since you literally can't meet the score requirements.

It’s probably standard advice but when drawing things in motion, it helps to think of the whole sequence before and after, and treat it like an animation you only pull a single key frame from. I think the anticipation of the next movement can give your figures a lot of life. Don’t be afraid to break anatomy a bit if it conveys movement better. As for cool shapes I think everyone is drawn to different ones, what’s important though is that you convey their volume properly through patterns, shading, and even your brushstrokes themselves, always keep in mind that what you’re making is 3d, you’re just forced to depict it in 2d. I wish I’d saved the image explaining it, but abstract shapes can have a clear direction as well. I look up to too many artists to keep track of them all, but the ones that influenced my style the most are jjfrenchie, kjg, koki, bill waterson and dentyou. I’ve been trying to adopt some of James harrens style but I don’t think that really shows

When you study a photograph or someone else's art, you are copying the decisions that have already been made by someone else. When you study from life, you will have to make those decisions yourself.

Once you get the hang of this, you can start to apply what you know to photographs.

That's when I stopped merely "copying" the photograph, and I instead started "studying" the reference. For the former, I use the reference as a substitute for my imagination. For the latter, I use the reference to stimulate my imagination. I start to imagine what it would be like to see this thing in real life.

tldr: I think there are things you will only learn when drawing from life, that can't be captured from a photograph

It certainly applies to painting too but painting requires knowledge of concepts like edge control and blending. Most of DAD uses a cel-shaded anime style which doesn't benefit from loose shapes so much.

Hi Auto, I got around to finishing what I wanted to do with this paintover. I was mostly playing around with lighting/color tweaks and stuff. One thing specifically I think would be nice is if you incorporated more "lost" edges near the deepest shadow areas, also incorporating more saturate colors in some of the shadows. Anyway I hope you find this helpful
