IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it.

Don't just draw a flat square for the head, draw a ball or box, enough to indicate where the front and side planes are and which way it's facing.
The lack of volume to the head caused you to not be able to attach the neck correctly.
Draw more torsos from reference (rib cage + pelvis + how they're connected via obliques, abs, etc) because the whole thing is fucked up right now.
Weird funny puffy floaty balloon legs, I have the same problem so I don't know how to fix it.
I'm a /beg/ too so I can't draw you a redline but hopefully that'll get you started.

I am a very strange fella

I don't know how to put it in words but I have lived the last 15 or so years, thinking art was all talent but it's just not, it's all form and understanding and talent comes from understanding it, I litterally hated every waking day of my life because I fucking love anime autistically and live in Yorkshire (hostile work environment), anytime I get put in a art "class" it's drawing exactly what you see without seeing any form

What I did to find the SPIRIT
>Got autistically into hips and fap to them a lot
>Started mapping anime girls with proportion in mind only, try to capture all the curves right, used a fucking youtube video to help me because I am poor as fuck and never have money in the bank
>(I did also ink and color them like a tard but do whatever)
>I wanted to get a understanding of objects in general, all mine that I have ever doodled and shit just don't look right, I wanted more understanding after just doing flat images and got into the juicy meaty fucking delicious thing that is perspective and drawing from the viewpoint in mind

I also did autistic things like quickly mapping a shitshot kawaii uguu face and literally getting used to the motion of constantly drawing circles squares

Now it's that my mind can't stop thinking about putting it all together, I don't have any form in how I really plan out my images from the getgo and i am trying to figure it all out,but just playing around with these concepts in practice and mostly sketch has been nice

>> No.4402068

I hate to say this, but 2018's version looks better (look at the bend on her right arm for example). The difference in quality is certainly more prominent as a result of time taken to draw the character rather than any progress made between the two drawings, or at least that's just how I see it. May be you could spend the same amount of time as the old drawing on another drawing and then compare the two.

im /beg/ so take this with a grain of salt

I use CSP and i dislike the default watercolour brushes, so i created my own. Besides that, you need to spend more time blending, pushing the colour back and forth between the two colours. youre only making horizontal strokes, with very few colour steps. I like to keep my finger over my cololur picker hotkey. tapping the brush also helps, rather than dragging the colour around, when you get near the end.

You can also use a watercolour brush with no paint on it, or press very lightly, to blend together, but from my experience it can make things look muddy. Heres my attempt at the blending

again, im /beg/ so i might be completely wrong.

i feel like im completely fucking blind. I understand the loomis head in theory, but when it comes to actually looking at a picture and drawing an accurate one im struggling. I think my biggest issue is figuring out where the sides of the sphere are cut off, and how that actually relates to the face. Is the edge of the eye the end of the front plane of the face?
second thing is im having a very hard time telling the orientation of heads when theyre at slight angles. I cant tell if this head is looking up or down. The fact i can see so much of the bottom plane of this girls nose makes me think shes looking up, but if i look at the brown line it wraps around the head in a way that would imply shes looking down.

Get better reference. Look at old caucasian people. I would study skulls and get good at the planes of the bone structure before jumping into young soft looking heads. You're going straight to the deep end without working on the basics. In the ref there are barely any visible anchor points for you to see what's going on under the skin. It's too soft and the lighting doesn't help much either. Figure out skulls, and basic head structure first. I'm not an expert, but I gave it a try.

the whole middle section is handwaving that would need some examples to make sense. what's the difference between lvl 2 perspective and lvl 4 or lvl 12? you'ld only know if you're the author, or maybe with hindsight.

the list of study topics and the mastery level examples are fine at least.

Definitely keep doing the more in depth drawings.
There's a visible improvement from the left, but you're still weak with eyes and ears. The eyes especially you are symbol drawing, instead of actually thinking how they would fit the face and skull.
>>4402374
Here you made more effort with the eyes and it shows.
Keep drawing more detailed faces and use references to know how each part of the face should look considering the perspective, instead of drawing what you feel looks right.

there is nothing wrong in starting with stickmans, but what you want to try is the approach that sculptors do. Observe how they start with a very thin steel base and fill it with aluminum and clay

https://youtu.be/rHw9IH00eWA?t=33

what you should be focusing right now is to learn how to fill those gaps even if you're starting from a stickman, I believe if you were to begin constructing with shapes you'd tunnel vision too hard on symbol drawing. For this I recommend technical knowledge and learn how to fill those gaps first, I suggest Human Anatomy for Artists by Eliot Goldfinger. There is a copy of it on libgen, it's a .djvu file though but you can easily open it with Sumatra PDF. If you insist with learning construction with shapes, I'd like to see an example of what you are "aiming for" since there are different authors for different goals.

try out the heavily blended austic realism. it's surprisingly forgiving and educational. just watching the illusion slowly build up on paper can help you get a better sense of what's going on with light and form in general, that'll carry over to more simplified methods.

Okay so I have a little question. On the bottom right corner of the screen, I drew a cube like shape with 2 smaller shapes of more or less equal size on each side of the bigger one. All in one point perspective.

I then tried to draw it in 2 point perpective but my doubt is, how do I find out where to place the other smaller shape? How do I find out how big its supposed to be? Do I just eye it or are there other methods?

if they are studies from photographs focus on getting them as exactly as possible with your level of skill, and not only to copy but to understand the underlying decisions that make you trace a line (is there a muscle underneath, bone? is the value range correct? are there any tangents here). If it's a freestyle doodle, then you should try to gear towards expressing emotions and facial expressions. For this you can definitely make weird faces in front of a mirror, try to feel how you would like something to look as and study closely. There are a couple of cartoons that are pretty good at this, once you feel confident that they don't "look so dead", study body language.

Look up nude models and compare and contrast until you get a fitting look that's also more anatomically correct. Or look at high-tier artists on pixiv. Remove every lick of construction on there until it's just exactly what you want it to be or even better. Anything to make it look better than now and not bad. Every drawing starts off bad, but if you keep fixing it, it'll always get better. Even if you mess up and make it bad again, just fix it.

I'm trying to learn the basic construction of the skeleton so I can imagine what's going on inside the body. I think my bone placement and bone size is off here. The ribs bend back which is why you're missing the tilt. You should be able to see the underside of the ribs. You also drew the pelvis too far. That corner on the statue is the iliac crest which is as far as it goes. It dips down after that. Not 100% on this part, but I like to think that the femur is lower too since the muscles pool towards it and it's too high up on the hip in your drawing.
