yes as a legitimate skill. I want to make comics. my own OCs. I even want to go into animations but its hard when you have a mental block like I have now and filled with mental issues, lol. thats what suckes the most when you know you can do it but your mental state is keeping you from doing it. I understand, if you really want to make drawing a legitimate markteatble skill then you must know that it will be a long and difficult road especially with all the other life problems you have mentioned. It will need as much work as any other legitimate skill like learning a new language or a new academic subject.

Just , as >>4390594 said you could to cultivate drawing as a new habit. Start small try to make something in 10 minutes and them get up take a break and them come back and do another one. If you stick to it soon you should start to feel that you do not want to stop after 10 minutes because you are not finished yet. The key is being consistent, doing this daily, thinking of it when you have downtime like doing some manual labor or any activity that leaves your mind to wander.

Also I know this will probably be the opposite thing you expected to hear but best thing I can suggest is that you also take care of your metal health and life because this practice is guaranteed tot make you stressed even more especially once you get into it deeper.

>> No.4390680

>>4390651
Addendum: I asked in >>4390598 about you using it for self therapy because supposedly some studies have shown just the simple act of scribbling random lines on a paper, even mindless scribbles, can have calming and focusing effect on the mind. Also other studies supposedly found that talking on the phone and scribbling random stuff aimlessly while doing so resulted in better recall of the phone conversation and. So it can serve as a form of self therapy and it supposedly have a positive effect on your if you in the long run.

I see. Does hatching on metal translate well into a more cartoony style, or would it be better to stick with the more basic style. I want to be able to crosshatch realistic metal, but I don't know if it would work for a cartoon. I thought maybe thicker lines might help.

i'm the anon from last thread; silhouette is better, much more readable, good work on that (idk whats going on below the waist though- does he have legs?). pose is a little stiff like the other anon said, i think its because of two things mainly, the angle between the torso and hips is a little steep, and it feels like we're looking at the torso from two perspectives at once (see pic rel.). remember skeletons dont have muscles so no traps, so top of torso is much flatter than normal, much more box-like. also elbow looks a little small to me see pic rel. again

The precise way of doing it: construct a perfect cube around your sphere (by using a horizon line and vanishing points), pick a point on your sphere where you want your arc to intersect, find the matching point on the opposite side of the sphere, construct a perfect square that intersects those two points, draw the unique ellipse that fits inside that perfect square. Vandruff shows an example of this in his perspective videos.
The way everyone actually does it: just practice a lot and eyeball it. Make sure your lines aren't totally flat anywhere, that's the number one mistake people make.

Draw the endpoints first. Draw the closer end (e.g. the hand) at whatever size and position you feel it should be, then draw the other end (e.g. the elbow or shoulder) again by just feeling it out, then connect them.

It looks like you tried to foreshorten her left arm there, the one holding the cigarette. This should be a pretty easy pose to do yourself, so do that pose with one arm, take a pic with your other arm, and then study the pic to see where you went wrong.
A couple immediate observations: her left hand is supposed to be closer to us than her right, but you drew them as basically the same size. Her left hand should look at least a little bigger than her right in this scenario. You also didn't overlap your forms at all (upper arm, lower arm, hand), you just laid them out side by side. Typically in foreshortening, the closer forms will overlap and partially hide the more distant forms, almost making it looks as if the arm "grows right out of" the hand.

i hope he takes those words to heart and motivates himself to improve his drafts.

Post it.
Or try talking to an actual therapist. That sounds more like a personal problem than a technical issue with the artwork, and you might get more useful advice that way.

I realized the tree on the left is a black girl and I tried to do pencil on acryclic but it just wears out the pencils. Also I tried to pour and paint pipe unclogger (base NaOH) on it to blur away the whole painting but it just went gray for a while and went back EXACTLY back into what it was

I tell you it was trippy but this painting must go.. or has it earned its survival? I don't know..

Well there's two aspects to "shading" with a pencil, there's having the actual technique necessary to put down the exact tone you want where you want it, and then there's making good decisions about what tones to put where.
For the technique part, I've found that the best thing to do is to use the tip and go very slowly and deliberately. Some people have success with other methods, some people like using the side, some people like to smudge or even use graphite powder, but the tip is what helps me get the smoothest most even tones with the most control. Always start with light tones and layer more light tones on top of each other to work up to darker ones. Practice filling squares with the most even layer of light tone that you can using the tip of the pencil, trying to hide the paper grain completely. This is the building block that will allow you to put down arbitrary smooth tones.

>> No.4393119

>>4393095
how about google "muscles" and start drawing from reference
you learn by fucking doing the very thing you want to learn, you can even trace other people's works, take multiple artists images, draw them with your own eye, it will later translate into your drawing through imagination and you don't need reference crutches anymore, don't just pick one or two guys that you copy, take hundreds if not thousands, your own preferred style will stick from the mish mash of tons of different art styles and thus become unique

Draw with thought, don't draw with your brain turned off, just "doodling" gets you nowhere, think of the reasons you draw each line with and why they belong into the image and you will also memorize them better when later trying to draw
if you just draw for the sake of it and multitask something else at the same time, you'll forget nearly everything you could've learnt from the drawing process

you really don't
I have a friend who draws mean mechas and it's all from imagination, he rarely uses reference unless it's for a specific existing thing, he took 1 year to himself to learn how to paint digitally, before that he had no prior experience to drawing except for random doodling at school, he drew as much as he could, watched tutorial videos of lineart, proper shading, values etc. he studied the drawings, not just draw mindlessly and thus became an absolute beast at it
you gimp yourself and your learning by striving for perfect perspective and angles, you should be drawing nonstop, instead of wasting time on building wireframes
when it comes to drawing, it's quantity over quality for you to learn to draw properly
