IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Perspective is ok but it doesn't look like a person. Your proportions are off. Do some mannequins, then put the mannequins in perspective. It'll still look like cylinders but it'll correct the proportions. Or draw from ref or both.

Real talk for a moment, if you trace in a smart way you can make gains. Some people just can visualize form unless it’s in front of them. One thing I have learned is that every pro has their own secret they won’t share like a magician. Even those that stream daily look they they have everything figured out but they probably do preparation before turning the camera on themselves.

The fastest way to learn art is by tracing. However it is takes a lot of grit to do the trace method.

I am talking about 1,000 hours of tracing.
That is why Michelangelo burnt all his /beg/ tracing. He said it himself, if people knew how much work he actually put in, they won't say it is talent. In fact, he probably hated the idea of talent. Which is why he hated Leonardo da vinci.

If you study art history, you will understand, Michangelo traced on rice paper to carved it into the wall for his Sistine chapel, as a form of image transferring. He understood tracing because he trained with it.

I don't really know how to do an anatomy study. I was just trying to copy isn't the right word but replicate the shapes I saw in the ref. Well, back to Loomis for me. I did this before work, and there's like, 3 major issues. The torso is a bit long, the arms are a bit skinny and the legs just feel wrong. I feel like while my line work is cleaner and it looks closer to a human shape than before, it's uncanny valley wrong since it just feels off. Like, almost got it, but not really. You shouldn't give up just because it's not meeting your expectation really. It's hard to draw from imagination and it's even harder to draw it right. It's why we use reference for most, if not all of our art work. I made it a habit for myself to finish pictures because you can't really progress if you keep stopping at the same point.

My advice, stop trying to draw complete humans with fleshed out features for now. Learn the manikin frame, learn perspective, practice drawing the frame in different poses and angles like the book tells you to. Then you can further your studies, learn facial anatomy, arms, legs, hands, feet, etc. and how each one is constructed and fits together. THEN you can do your weird coomer art and it will actually look decent.

But I thought I'd post them here anyway in the beg because I'm beg. In the off chance there would be an interesting comment. And I'd maybe like to "improve" but as you said, kid's throwint paint at the canvas?

What? No it's not a meme at all.
Can you take a figure and draw it at any point receded in space while keeping it exactly the same height? Can you take any point on the surface of a box and find the same point on the opposite surface? Can you do a plan projection? These are concrete tools that immediately level up your drawing. Anytime you have trouble drawing something, especially rendering a texture, you should get a good reference picture of it, zoom in close, make it black and white, just try to duplicate a small part. Forget about the face asks the background, only do sections of the hair. Make your background gray and only add lighter grays /white and darker grays /black. You don't have to make it perfect but it'll give you an idea of how to lay down hair.

You shouldn't be afraid of using the mannequin. It's actually a really good exercise to set up a pose with the mannequin, but then draw a more natural-looking figure over that basic structure that DOESN'T end up looking like a wooden toy. Training yourself to be able to use that basic underdrawing as a guide for where the place things, but having enough freedom to not take the underdrawing super literally and not just straight reuse every line from it. It takes intuition and practice to be able to go from the blocky underlying structure to the flowy natural finished drawing but it's a very useful skill to have.
When you begin to transition from drawing from reference to drawing from imagination, you're going to want to construct your poses and scenes out of boxes in perspective. And then you're going to be in a similar situation as you are with the mannequin, you constructed your underlying structure out of simple blocky forms, and you want to use that structure as a guide for where to place things, but you don't want your figures to actually look like they're made of boxes. So you need the intuition and judgment to be able to transfer from one to the other.

Get Centropen Document Fineliners for inking. They cost maybe 10% more than a gel pen and have a shitton of ink in them. They also easily draw over pencil sketches without skipping unlike gel pens.

You still can use your gel pens for sketching without underdrawing. Gonna be good for you.

Anatomy for Sculptor is a reference book. It's for when sculptors are modeling and need to check because you can't just cut up people every time you need to see where something is. For people who draw, it's for reference when you're not sure what part you're looking at the body is. It helps dissipate any ideas of mysterious bumps and the like.

i think you should probably work on simpler poses in order to get down the human body proportions and anatomy.
