IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

I looked it up, and it's definitely recognizable. I still think the knife looks silly, but I guess it's true to the source material.
Anyway, I'd start with a more realistically proportioned body. Less tits and ass, more ribcage and spine. For the pose, just try to think of something more dynamic. What is she doing? Addressing a gathering? Stabbing an imperial guardsman? Gloating? The one in the GW miniature is just walking, but that's a good start.
Sorry, I don't know if any of this is helpful. It's not really broken, I just don't like the style.

You're regressing bro. My advice, don't listen to any posts here that just boil down to 'it sucks' or 'I don't like it'. Listen to the real critiques and try to improve, but don't take all of the negative feedback to heart unless it has useful info, else you'll just keep going in circles. That being said, this looks really bad. Do you do fundies too or do you just sketch Asuka pics all day? It might be beneficial to just go back to the essentials for a while.

How is tracing a good learning tool?

>>4374920
My advice would be to start taking it in steps. Finish this picture fully, compare it side by side your reference (and always use reference) There's a lot of videos out there that can explain how to portion the body into simple shapes and figures. Jumping right into details without the proper foundation will always lead to the same mistakes

>> No.4374963

>>4374957
Drawing from reference is harder in some ways than imagination at the beginning because you have a very exact standard you're trying to meet. There is a clear definition for what's a mistake and what's not. Whenever you draw from imagination and you make a midtake you can say, well maybe I meant it to be that way.
It will be hard but you have to do it. You will learn to draw appealing pictures by copying appealing pictures that others have made and internalizing their methods.

far better than drawing on paper!
one can flip the image to see mistakes, fully erase instantly - line it up with the reference to compare,, trace and draw construction lines on reference,
pen / surface only needs small amount of pressure for RSI
No need to waste paper or carry it around all day with embarrasing lewd drawings on!

Hi Anon, you have a slight bit of pillow shading going on there at places, I would suggest trying to keep the light's direction consistent although I admit it is quite difficult on such a detailed figure.

I used the shadow between the head and the collar to establish the main light source as that seemed to be the most logical one on the picture.

>> No.4376418

try to do the construction OVER the reference considering perspective, landmarks etc., then draw the construction again from memory (no ref), trying to nail the perspective and landmarks. Keep it simple as those scribbles, and don't take more than 10 mins on the exercise. Repeat on other poses and try to learn the logic of the construction over time. The idea is that you become intuitive with it

not an expert at drawing from your head and your characters look more "characteristic" than my same face doodle-tier iterations for the most part but if i were you i would try getting most of the form on paper first with a loose gesture so its doesnt look like youre lego-blocking your forms together. you have a good eye so its working for the most part but the more you work from big the small the more natural and well-planned your drawing will come across, and i would also venture to say you will benefit from the experimentation offered by allowing yourself to get more loose and tap into your subconscious ability to describe the things you see in your minds-eye. you really just gotta go at it and scribble and let your instincts do the work. you're missing the point with these stale representations of what you're seeing. imagine someone has a gun to your head and told you to do the most descriptive drawing you can of a subject in in 30 seconds. go at it like your life depends on it not as if your mom is gonna put it on the fridge when you get home from school

Yeah, dat lighting makes much more sense and seems so obvious now that I look at it, why didn't I see it when I was drawing? Although, there some moments I'm not sure about, like left half of the right tiddy being completely covered in shadow.

Thanks for taking the time to show me.

1) You're clearly not drawing anatomically accurate faces, you're doing stylized cartoon faces, which is fine, but yours are ugly. If you look at anime faces there are thousands of examples of how to draw appealing stylized faces.
2) Asuka is an anime character so I'm kind of confused when you say you want to draw Asuka but not anime.

If you care about anatomical accuracy then don't draw stylized cartoon features, actually take the time to build a 3D nose, show the eye sockets receding, etc. Look at Hampton's simplified heads and copy how he does it.

Yeah it is not easy, the more complex the lighting and the shapes are the more complicated it becomes to achieve a realistic look, that is the challenege of rendering. That is why a lot of artists simplify shadows and often even cheat a bit to make the picture read better.
Keep at it Anon!

I used this pose from the book "drawing manga people and poses" by Ryo Hirata. Once you have that down you van have fun coming up with the clothes and features from imagination, for the background I color picked from a photo I took in a highway at a time of the day I liked and made big blobs with the brush, as for the lighting in the character I googled a shit ton of people in front of sunsets, just made it less red and more yellow to fit my backgroun. It worked but I found a drawing that will be very useful if you are trying to draw similar lighting conditions, Im going to find it and post it here as a reply

stop
they're ugly, it's damaging your wrist and you won;t be able to impress cute girls with your shitty chickenscratching when it comes to traditional drawing
just take a few weeks to turn these 32874219748 lines into a single confident line - even if it is wobbly or whatever your images would look skillful and appealing

you need to stop drawing this, it's not helping you get better. and in terms of artistic merit it is pure trash,
If you're trying to make a piece, it's a good thing, but you need to have a composition and a story and interest and bring something new into the world : what you're drawing right now I could find dozens of on google images in 2 seconds for you to copy
