Does anyone draw with fountain pens? I'm looking for one within a budget of around $130 and am hoping someone can give me some good recommendations.

>> No.4369280

You definitely don't need to spend that much for a drawing fountain pen but the Namiki Falcon is right there.

1. you're retarded for wanting to buy a fountain pen for that.
2. drawabox sucks, do peter han's dynamic drawing course.
3. use the most disposable markers or ballpoint/felt tip pens you can. a fountain pen isn't ideal for the types of exercises the course is for.

Get a Lamy Safari to start, greatest starter fountain pen there is. If you're using it to put other media on top of, consider getting an ink converter (refillable reservoir for inside, commonly available) and some Noodler's Bulletproof Ink. I use them for watercolors all the time, good stuff.

>drawabox sucks

Alright that's fair enough this guy sounds like he might know what he's talking abo-
>do peter han's dynamic drawing course.
oh no it's retarded
but really when starting out it doesn't really matter what you start with as long as you keep at it consistently and all

Get $1 ink pen
Draw cubes till it runs out

I don't actually like either but if he was a nerd falling for DAB I figured I might as well point out the proper way. I didn't do either of them past the basic draftsmanship exercises in the beginning to get confidence and wouldn't recommend after that either. Mileage is more important but that's up to them to figure out.

Seconding the Lamy, it's my mainly used pen along with a Sailor Fude de Mannen, both with converters. The Noodlers Flex nibs are great budget pens too.

I know the falcon supposedly has a "flex" nib, does the TWSBI also have one? Also I've heard many people say good things about the falcon. I was also looking at possibly the vanishing point as well.

>>4369303
The Lamy Safari is actually the one I own right now! It doesn't quite fit my needs though. I've got the fine nib and it feels too thick for my liking/can't do fine details with it. I also have to hold it at an angle higher than I'm used to or the ink stops flowing.

Close but that would be the preppy.
>3-4 USD
>comes with an ink cartridge
>disposable but the construction is solid and lasts as long as a regular pen
>can be converted into an eyedropper
>clear

Is that Sailor pen using a special type of nib? It looks so strange. Which one provides you with the smoothest lines?

Any Jap F or EF nib would suit you then, or Microns.
>I also have to hold it at an angle higher than I'm used to or the ink stops flowing.
That's all fountain pens.

>>4369365
Yeah it's a fude/calligraphy nib. I have the 40 degree one, it's excellent for getting thin lines and filling in big areas like a brush. It's a great sketching nib. It's not about smooth lines. If you want smooth lines then use a fineliner/tech pen.

Vilppu uses falcon, it is an enjoyable pen to use. the flex might come down to what the nib is made if though, as in gold is more flexible than steel.

Just buy a sakura pigma micron and search on YT how to refill that. You can use pigmented ink unlike fountain pen.

That's a great idea actually. However, I've never been able to solve the issue of the tip getting compressed into the metal and being unusable. I've tried looking up how to fix this but have never managed to be able to push the tip back through once it's in there. Otherwise, I would definitely do this.

I buy cheap pens like the 911 or the Preppy. I'd post more handwriting but no one else here writes so its viewed as demon magick

fuck yeah i draw with them, been drawing with ballpoint pens for years because i'm poor and i thought i had to spend a lot of money on a fountain pen, recently i bought a dirt cheap one and it works amazing both for writing and drawing, again since i been using ballpoint all my life the only feature i search for in a fountain pen is that is able to put a line of solid color on paper, that's all. If you have more experience with them and know what works for you then you can go way fancier than that but of course pople that already know wat they want don't ask for advice on a $130 purchase on a namibian cave painting social media.
Stick to a cheap one a see how it feels, then you can go rockefeller, not necesarily my recomendation but i heard a lot of good things about the Pilot Metropolitan

I watched a few vids from this guy and bought
>Pilot Metropolitan - $20
>Lamy Safari - $25
>Duke 209 - $10

Theres literally no reason to have a budget that high unless you want a meme pen like the namiki falcon. But if thats true at least play around with cheaper pens first.

I have a pilot vanishing point. I think the like nib unit or whatever is fucked up. Unless I'm holding it vertical ( nib towards the ceiling ) it discharges a huge bubble. Also some leakage around the gasket.

>> No.4374563

>>4374561
Decent pen though. Very aesthetic. Probably won't bother replacing the nib anytime soon.
