IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

your drawing is completely different. you're not constructing the body right and then youre trying to build anatomy on a non existent skeleton. im looking at her waist and butt on the left. completely different shape than yours. also the butt crack. just look at the butt crack vs yours. you arent ready yet to be doing figure drawing. try learning to draw a mannequin, learn proporton and then learn to draw a mannequin in perspective, then you can crank out some gesture to get poses down, then you can grind anatomy. if you don't do it in that order, you won't improve.

Dude
Don't bother rendering right now, you're actually pretty confident with your lines and overall digital work it seems but your drawing is lifeless, the limbs are stiff and the head is not attached right, there's no movement, it's too static and it's boring. Do more gestures learn to feel the movement of the body, art has to tell a story, make your drawing more dynamic otherwise no rendering or lines are gonna make it less drab

Think about the longest line in the body and it's direction and the rhythm you can create by contrasting the other side of the body. For instance if a character was running the longest line is from the chest to the back foot, and it's curvature should have an asymmetry with the curve of the front of the body to create a rhythm

Besides sketching during work, I've Been working on this in my off time after work the last couple of days. Looking for some critique. I feel like her left breast is way too low, but being that she's supposed to be older at 45 and has giant tits anyway, I think they sag low enough and I just need to draw that line there. I dunno. Also, the coloring isn't done, but the hair coloring isn't gonna make or break this drawing.

I don't think you look like a /beg/. You understand foreshortening and construction and everything is proportional and feels right. You're experienced enough to stylize effectively, you have good line control, and there is none of the beginner's awkwardness or stiffness evident here.

there is something very nice about these. you have to refine a few things but a lot of potential. nice lips. i think the girl on the left, her eyes are too small and nose might also be too small. the dark one in the middle is cool but the eyes are not symmetrical, same for the one on the top right. but theyre cool. theyre beautiful fo sho. you could also clean up the shading a bit hatch if you're gonna hatch, but don't leave it scratchy. keep posting, i really like that you are drawing women with normal jaws and chins. i hate seeing people drawing something that looks like that awful korean jaw surgery. those girls look cute when they find the right angle. but sometimes when you see what they really look like, its disturbing. ig jaw and big lips are sexy. Hey thanks for the feedback man.

>you could also clean up the shading a bit hatch if you're gonna hatch, but don't leave it scratchy.
Yeah I've wanted to work on my hatching and have been experimenting with it for a while.
I mean as far as the lay-in for a flat value is concerned i think it's sort of fine.
However trying to hatch in a way that supports the form, or indicates things, always turns out really patchy, scratchy, muddy, dirty for me.
Maybe the key is subtlety and I'm just too much of a dumb brute...

Something like pic related is what I'd aspire to if I could pull it off in any way whatsoever.

I've read loomis in the beginning and it's good enough I suppose but I have to say I'm not really a fan.

I've skimmed some other things such as "Giovanni Civardi - Drawing Portraits Faces And Figures" and "Watson Guptill - Portrait Drawing A Step-By-Step Art Instruction Book"
But that was when I started to suspect that the book didn't really matter because my fundamentals were what was lacking and holding me back.
So for the majority of time i've just been trying to improve the basics, measuring distances & angles etc. and trying to be more aware of Forms and Planes, keeping things simple for the most part.

Recently I had a look at "Steve hustons Head drawing course", which I really like, and I've been trying to absorb that as far as my ability allows.

>Ok so a couple of things.
>I think you started out with the top half. you did the head and tits confidently. you had a vision and you executed it ok. for the bottom half of the body, i think you didn't know what you wanted to do exactly. and because of that your perspective changed and doesn't fit. that's why i'm encouraging a ref. Maybe you were inspired to draw her face and tits and you wanted it to be a full body but you couldn't visualize what the legs would look like. that's what i see here.
>And you're not bad at drawing legs or feet but these ones don't match this body.
>The most obvious problem is the way the right leg bends. It's longer than the left leg. Her knee bends sideways? This make no sense to me.
> A less obvious thing would be her hips are out of perspective. When you got down to the thighs you started drawing the legs straight on at a flat angle. Yes, it's close to the horizon but it's not right. The hips would be at a similar angle to the boobs. So the right hip should be higher than the left hip which means you drew her butt and back and wait out of perspective. You drew that straight on, but remember we're on the floor looking up at her.
>also her pose is odd from any angle. She's twisting her body so her head faces left and her feet face the camera. It's not physically impossible but I don't understand what the pose means. Is it playful? Sexy? Strong? To me it's just weird. If I saw someone pose that in real life I'd tell them to relax and face forward.

Oh I don't think I have a definitive answer to that, I can tell you what I'm trying to keep track of while drawing but I don't feel like I've reached a stage where I really know what I'm doing.

I think the most important thing is probably the clear separation of value-groups in to light, mid and dark tones and keeping the "clutter" within those value groups to a minimum. when I don't do that things usually go sideways for me.
I usually keep the white value of the paper as the skin tone, that is illuminated by a light source, but I don't think you have to, as far as I'm aware what's most important is that the contrast is clear.

If you look on youtube for a combination of the terms "value" "shape" or "shadow-shapes" you'll probably find things that are a lot more helpful than my ramblings.
Marco bucci has some great videos on the subject.
