A social network relies on that social part to be fun. Pillowfort is an alternative to other social networks but it's still a social network. Since the majority of us got our invites to the site from /ic/, why not start socializing with people we already know we have a little bit in common with? Don't think too much of it, anon. Make the requirement to join the site a current 7-day streak on dad.gallery. Then have enticing goodies on the site itself that require posting a certain amount of art to access. And then have the length of that access determined by a combination of longest art streak as well as amount of art posted overall, critiques, and redlining.

It started 3 years ago. You can already use the site, the community keeps growing and the team behind it often communicates about what's happening. They plan to do an UI redesign this year before a public release. I don't know if it will last but there is potential.

I dunno, it just felt like the Internet was always a private place where I could be myself and post my art until it wasn't. It was always very annoying when I was younger to have people want to go through my sketchbooks. I had a few years where I just let people think I grew out of drawing and just posted on sites like dA and Instagram/tumblr before they got big. Then Facebook bought Instagram and started recommending my account to everyone in my contacts list because I had my phone number synced like an idiot and my username is the same on everything I use so it was easy to find my other stuff, too. I never had any bad feedback so I guess I should be thankful but really I'm just frustrated.

I’d say both. The communities are pretty small but generally the skill level isn’t so high that you’d feel too intimidated from joining in. It’s a nice gallery alternative to Tumblr too.
