Also, cost of artworks depends on the artist's notoriety. It's impossible to value artworks based on skill level.

Really? The author clearly took a lot of time to do this and it is a well made piece but 400 bucks seems too much. Maybe I just don't know much about selling art but I would say 100-150 dollars for an a quality print

I sincerely doubt that. fFar of being doxed is such a bullshit excuse, when you can just post ANY random work you've made that doesn't have any watermark or signature that would indicate that's it's you.

Also no one would even give a shit, as much as you'd love to think so.

simple math. how many hours do you think it took the artist to draw that? let's say he's super fast and it took 5 hours. that's an hourly wage of 20 dollars. he might as well flip burgers. just because you are poor doesn't mean everyone else wants to be

ITT: Retards who think that your prices are determined by how good you are, or by how long it took you to make something.

Your work is worth however much value it generates for the client. This same work could generate $200 in a private commission, or $500 as a private commission, or $2,000 as the key art for an large marketing promo, or $800 as artwork for a trading card game, etc. etc. A piece like this could cost wildly different amounts depending on who it's for and how it's used, even if the workload is exactly the same. How your work is used is much more important than how it's made.

At no point in my post did I even come close to expressing this. Nice reading comprehension, you stupid fucking retard.

>>4347557
>effectively mean the same thing
No, no it doesn't. Again - who it's for and how it's used are the main factors in determining how much you can charge for your work, and the main reason why a single illustration could generate wildly different amounts of money despite being the same amount of work. All commissioned work should be negotiated and quoted on a project-by-project basis with consideration to who is commissioning the work and how it is going to be used.

Nope, it's simply the truth. Demand creates the price. If you are in demand, you can charge more, and vice versa.
It's the simplest and most common marketing concept in general. And it applies to selling art as well.
If you think differently, you are a brainlet. Sorry anon.

>> No.4347873

and demand is created by virtue of you being good, if you are shit the chances of you landing demand is close to nil, just end yourself you literal brainlet.

>> No.4347875

>>4347873
Demand is not created only by your skill level. It's acombination of thing. From my personal experience the most important factor is exposure. Then followed by skill.

It's the same function on the basis that "good" is relative and applies to the many factors that can determine what your value is to someone looking to pay for your work. Regardless of the commissioner/client or the project, if they are coming to you for your work then that means that you are "good". If the work is for a bigger project and they have come to you, then that means that you are "good" enough for the client in question to have designated an entire part of a budget for you. Even more so for a private commission, the artist has all the negotiating power because of everything that comes from being seen as "good".

Of course you don't want to gouge the shit out of anyone for your services and adjust accordingly like you're saying, but that also plays into being a perceived as a "good" artist worth someone's money. My point was that >>4347293 is a fucking retarded faggot for using such a broad word.

We're definitely in agreement here.

>>4347875
>exposure
This. IMO - the 2 most important qualities that I see successful artist possess are the fact that they have a unique style prevalent through a strong, cohesive portfolio, and the fact they know how to generate proper exposure for themselves. An extremely skilled artist who does nothing to promote themselves or practice their entrepreneurial skills will be far, far behind an amateur artist who knows how to hustle and self promote themselves to potential clients. There are so many more important factors that will influence one's success than just being "good",
