any advice to draw this curly hair with lights from behind in this black and white sketch? especially the top part where the light is most transparent
there are a lot of shitty things around too but right now I just wanna deal with the hair thing

If you only do the hair without making the face affected by a light source(s) it will just look an afro with frosted tips. I suggest looking at how Mike Mignola simplifies light in his inked work.

I see, I have to do the shadows in the face too, but I havent a clear idea on how relate each other. I will spend some time watching Mike Mignola's work, its pretty good with this style

thank you

start with dark and bring out the lights, white background means the dark is emphasized, with a dark background the lights are emphasized

>> No.4339116

>>4339113 also consider thinking in layers, dark background, hair reflecting light, and then shadowed hair in the foreground (also tilt your nose a few degrees, it will make a world of difference)

Defocus or squint your eyes and look at the refrence, you'll see a simplified version of it. Draw the big simplified shapes of light and dark you see when squinting at the refrence, you can make the shapes more specific later but this gives you a solid foundation to work from.

just saying you didnt really capture the likeness, the left looks like a young black dude instead of eraserhead

Agreed. He looks black mostly because of the upper lip being black and shaped the way it is
