Well, you can't just look at art, you have to analyze it too. Look at some of your favorite works, what is it about them that you find so appealing? How about the OP pic for example, what do you like about it and what makes it amazing to you? For me, I think the rat people are cute, and they are drawn simply and stylistically to achieve that. It's very much a "cartoon" illustration, but the exaggeration is subdued and it is carefully drawn. In addition to the drawing, the typography and overall aesthetic is also very appealing, evocative of Chinese art/calligraphy while being neat, balanced, and cleanly executed. Really look closer at the works that move you significantly, find the specific attributes and techniques that make you feel what you feel. Be really mindful of what you like/dislike and be specific, they're your tools for decision making and nobody has the same set of tools, so it's what will make you standout if you draw from multiple influences of varying styles and techniques, creating a very intentional synthesis of everything you find appealing.

I don't get over the fact that the idea of dad.gallery getting rolled over to a different host just sprouted out of "people mistaking it for a gallery". Why do you pander to people that do not bother to read the rules? Submissions that don't follow the rules should be tribunal'd instead of excused, even if that "mistake" was made by someone like Mathias.

Ideally, I'd join each month and get so used to it that I'm doing this excellent practice every day without even thinking about it, and before my ''normal'' daily drawings. But there is a danger of getting burned out or having it negatively affect your other work. The uncertainty lies mostly with the fact that you have to do it outside <every single day>, which leaves you open for being shafted by circumstance/the weather. Having to worry about that all the time can hamper productivity. So far I've drawn in the rain and when it was so windy my stuff almost flew out of my hands, and done still lifes under street lighting when it was too dark to draw anything else. It can be pretty miserable. It also takes far more time than the 30m a day would suggest, unless you're drawing literally right outside your doorstep. Which I highly recommend

Monster mash is good for designing characters outside of your comfort zone (must learn e.g. animal parts for the monster part), OC design sheet will kick open the door of actually solidifying a character, fashion complements both by making you study creatures and forms and clothing design. I think they fit very well together, it's like a mini class with tests on three interrelated subjects. You can draw a pile of thumbnails and parts and go back and forth between all three subjects until you assemble pieces to your liking

People just really need to learn to only do a fraction of studies and then do their own original stuff along with it. It’s total comfort zoning. Anime especially requires some copying because of how stylized shit is, you can’t expect to study JUST masters and learn to draw anime from it. It winds up becoming unappealing. I think for anime artist who are stuck on copying, J would be a good model to follow. He usually does a bunch of copies from other artists, a bunch of figure studies of real people, and a bunch of poses from imagination. That would probably be more beneficial to learning than just trying to learn from other anime drawings.
