IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

In general I agree with you. If it looks right it is right.
However.
Normies don't have the knowledge to consciously care about anatomy and perspective, but if you make bad enough mistakes in these areas (assuming you're trying to draw realistically or semi-realistically), it will make the picture look "no longer right" and people will immediately see that and they will care, even if they don't have the vicabulary to explain why.
On the other hand you have a lot of retards on boards like this who are eager to show off and hyper-analyze and nitpick every "mistake" in a drawing possible, even if the mistakes don't actually make the drawing look worse (in some cases they even make it look better). You can safely ignore these people.

Redliner is correct and that post was amazing. I'm curious though, is it OK to fuck up on anatomy sometimes? I mean maybe you want to see the ass and the face in one picture. Maybe not physically possible. But is there a way to bend the rules? Can you be an artist and fuck up anatomy in order to put your vision on canvas? And how do you do that without just being wrong? As he began he drew a circle, and the whole room were impressed with how well executed it was. How many thousands of circles had this man drawn throughout his lifetime? To all of us it seemed flawless. His only acknowledgement of the circle was 'It's not perfect, but I suppose it will do.'

you wont enjoy things so much when you struggle to recall anything from those ref "copying" because you didn't actually "study" it.

focus study then try to recall what you learned from that study by drawing from memory. do it about 10 to 20 times, the more the better but personally 20 times is enough for me to recall some things. that way whenever you draw from imagination you won't waste time trying to find a ref.

Haven't uploaded my drawings here in a few days (I had to take a few days off).

I've realised now that my brush size is a bit big so I have scaled it down and now I'm trying to replicate the Peanuts style a bit more.

The top is drawings is from a few days ago and the bottom is today/yesterday any form of critique is welcome.

New to drawing, well this is my first time trying to draw "seriously". And by that I mean the first time I'm trying to use references, since the people I make come out as deformed noodle beings.

I don't have a drawing table or anything so I use SAI's line tool for my lineart.

Are there any tips I could use to improve this? Should I feel guilty about deforming, rotating, and re-purposing body references to give me the base of my people?

don't concentrait on style in the beg stages. If you do want to be more like him study dramatic lighting and look at how he abstracts the shadows.
The characters very flat, it looks like a character from Hazben Hotel, mostly due to you only shading the outsides of the form. Kudos on actually drawing hands.

When you get a pose, find reference for it.
It looks like your twisting bodies to show the parts you want to show, like the girls head is in profile pointing down, but her back is camera facing arch forward. The guys arms are flat on his sides while handing something over.
Act out these positions when you sketch them in, if they physically feel awkward they'll look awkward.
for a more dramatic pose, either have a seem that requires it, ie action scene, or change the "camera" placement to an odd angle.

I like the base colour best, which I guess is not a good thing. It looks very plastic with shadows, and even more so when it's light. a bit like old CGI.

There is this painter, famous, mind you. Whose name I can't remember, he used to paint these fat rich ladies laying and from behind, he has been studied quite often and the students have counted the vertebraes -or the estimation of them- and he always made more than there actually are.

Noone really noticed and if they did they didn't care. They paid him for his oil paintings and such.

So yeah, you can 'fuck up' anatomy, it's done very often.

The word you're looking for is reflected light. Also, it looks better except I'd have either ignored or severely toned down the light that's on the mouth, because it's in so much shadow. Even if you'd realistically see some light bounce there, actually putting it into a painting can muddle up the forms too much, and is mostly better off left out or left as a very subtle change. And if I didn't ignore it completely, I'd have rendered it along with the forms instead of throwing a block of light down on the whole mouth area.

Otherwise I think it's more pleasing to look at with the rest of the changes.
