Is the meme real? Is furry art an easy way of making fast money?
Give any tips and experiences you have.
T. I'm already an almost /pro/ artist, so learning the basics is no problem

I'm also interested anon, I already know I'm good I just need to know how to get into their "group" , I'm willing to draw all the degenerate shit they want (as long as it's legal).

How perverted must a drawing be to be considered illegal?

Most people don't even want degenerate shit just their ocs having tame (usualy gay) sex or nude pics of their characters.

Make a comission info chart and start posting your art on furaffinity or weasly, maybe inkbunny.

Yeah if you desperately need 40$ its "fast money" but unless you run it luke an actual business, you wont makeenough to pay rent.

I'm gonna tell you right now, it's not fulfilling if you don't do furry shit for yourself already. It's going to be a slog getting your name out there and keeping your numbers up, and you will have to interact with these people outside of commission work with your clients, and it wears on you, believe me it does. Don't do free shit for people because they take a mile every time.

if you don't enjoy it, you're gonna be cursing yourself for the time you put into it.

Don't bother with fanart if you're gonna be a commission artist, those followers don't give a rats ass and will unfollow you after a while.

some of these people are fucking pathetic and they will make that apparent to you for whatever reason.

be very selective in what you are willing to draw. because one post with really big tits and you're gonna have hyper and inflation perverts following you from then on.

And don't bother if you can't confidently make $15/hr, because you will be scraping the bottom of the barrel if you charge less than that.

I've been doing this shit for years so feel free to ask things.

Did you use any available art books starting out?

I'm a hobby artist that's mostly self taught, but I've been consuming kemono/furry art for a while and recently thought it would be nice to be able to draw them.

From what I've seen in Twitter and Furaffinity furry artists tend to fall into this two categories: Cheap 'cartoony' porn makers and extremely detailed/realistic artists who will charge decent amounts for a single sketch.
Do you consider ypurself any of those? Wich market strategy would you suggest?

This is kind of a mini guide on how to sell art to furries. As someone who has been part of that community for a long time there's certainly a lot of people willing to spend quite a chunk of money for quality art, nsfw or not. Honestly you don't have to put 100% focus on anthro characters but keeping that aesthetic for a while will certainly draw many more people in, again talking from experience. The best of course would be targeting fursuiters or people planning on getting one as those suits are quite, QUITE expensive (around 3000 for a pretty decent fursuit) and require of very detailed character sheets, or they could have already that art, in any way these are the people carrying the most amount of money, even more if they have some sort of following (which practically every fursuiter who tries can get). And of course other possible clients are those who have not yet amy art of their characters or just want porn. If you don't have a name in these places one of the best ways to get some reputation is making a raffle or giving away some freebies maybe in the furry subreddit (I've considered this many times as you can get a great amount of followers doing it). Lastly If you plan on doing anything mentioned above you might want to know some mannerisms. The Fandom tries very hard on looking goofy and friendly so they are very cautious when it comes to nsfw so unless you are trying to sell your images as one of a porn artist try to keep the surface sfw. These are very welcoming people and they treat each other like friends would so loosen up a bit. Nobody has a fursuit unless specified otherwise (if you go around asking "How the fursuits going?" they sre just going to assume you are a troll). You can also check FurAffinity and I think that's all I have to say.

The kemono route I think is definitely viable since many of those artists are either non-american/non-eurocentric and are pretty sparse on comms, the few you do see are often really heavily into Bara and niche kinks so it may be a strong option.

I'm mostly self taught as well(going on 7ish years I think) and while I hardly chose one source for learning, materials from loomis were and still are very important to me specifically for proportions. if you have a specific style in mind start dissecting what artists you like tend to do and how they came to those choices.

>>4309169
No, it's not real, stop thinking that you would make easy money with furry. You need to enjoy that shit and also be good at it.

thanks anon I had already written some advice a furry gave in here a few months ago but your advice of being goofy, cautious and friendly will also help me.

I could certainly do both, but my consistent 'style' has always been a bit in the middle trending toward the cartoon side of things heavily.

it depends on your personality on drawing, mostly and both are mostly viable after a long term of doing furry art. go look at some of the top rankings for FA, the big artists are a mix of those two. if you're starting out, it's gonna be harder for the big paying clients to find you if you're selling huge commissions with a little audience. If you can do really detailed things, that's great! but most furry art sites are so hard to get discovered on that it will probably burn you out. start smaller and focus on getting a significant base first (ya it takes time but if you're legitimately a good artist and spend time networking people often look your way more).

Chat up other small artists (you don't have to tell the autist his ugly sonic scribbles are good) FA has a ton of hidden gem artists under 2-3k who aren't the raving lunatics like the rest of the fandom and they genuinely appreciate other skilled artists just being friendly and watching them.

in short: both are viable long term, but if you burn your self out on masterpieces with only 100 watchers then you won't last long. the most important thing is networking and staying active. and having a fursona legitimately helps, especially if they're good. it isn't all 'draw porn of my OC for money' because there is some diversity of interests within that fandom people are willing to pay for.

If you are not a furry you are going to suffer, believe, I'm a max pervert and even I got tired of hearing the same crap time and time a again, porn destroys your soul because it's repetitive, and people don't give twi shafts about your technically skills most of the time, so if you put a lot of effort on something it may not payoff, just looks at the artist galled "fuf" her art is shit, yet she charges a lot for it, while other guys with more skills never full their commission slots, is not easy money, is a lot of work and stress and unless you can get to null Ghost level and also have luck you are honestly better flipping burguers.

New furry artist here (not a new furry), let me tell you my experience. If you're a half decent artist, follow these steps.

Most important:
Make Twitter
Make E621

Optional:
Make Furaffinity
Make Inkbunny
Make Pixiv

Twitter is Furry heaven. You *have* to have a twitter. And E621 is the gold standard furry porn site. If you post your art there, people will see it. Make sure to use an artist tag, and use your twitter profile as the source for the image. Then every time you post, you'll get a handful of followers on twitter.

Furaffinity is garbage to use, but every furry uses it. Inkbunny is okay, but not as big as Furaffinity. Pixiv is decent for extra exposure, especially if you don't only draw furry stuff. But they're all optional.

As far as "can I make money?" the answer is yes. How much? Depends how good you are, and what you're willing to draw. If you're an okay artist, you can easily get commissions in the $10-30 range just drawing simple, single character pieces. And Furries are trusting. Your accounts can literally be weeks old, but if you've posted stuff and they like it they will throw money at you. Willing to draw huge dicks? Animal dicks? Gay? Incest? Fat? Cub? The list goes on, and the dollars go up. The more niches you're willing to draw, the more money you can make. And furries are loyal af so if they find an artist they like, that they like working with, they will *continue* to get commissions from you. Over, and over and over and over.

So yeah, that's my breakdown. It is absolutely a fine way to make extra money, and if you commit time to it you can make a career of it. Patreon is very popular now, with artists pulling hundreds/thousands per month/submission for ongoing comics. Then put your private comms on top of that, and it can certainly pay the bills. But it will still be a fulltime job. Especially if you commit to marketing/social media, you can gain access to more customers than you can serve.

I have worked in freelancing sites for 3 years, there's nothing more soul destroying than not having control at all of your style or approach to any of your art, atleast with this a I can develop a certain style for this secondary career, I may not be a furry but I don't think it's going to be that bad, especially since I'm a degenerate already.

>> No.4309892

>>4309880
Yeah cub will make the majority of furfags hate you so I wouldn't consider it unless that's what you like and want to be known for.

>> No.4309893

>>4309776
Time to take on those sweet furry commissions then. Good luck!

>> No.4309896

>>4309880
Oh it is, mostly... but kind of isn't. If you do cub it should really be *all* that you do. A few big artists do get away with it, Zaush being a good example.

And there are very successful cub artists, like WagnerMutt, Marimo and the former Sashabelle (now Sethpup) all with over 20'000 followers. And those are just off the top of my head, there are lots more.

But yeah other than those few exceptions you can't be a popular furry artist and draw cub. If you want easy money, cub is probably the way to go though.

I'd like to sell at a furcon one day, but I've never been to one. What do vendors typically sell at fur cons? Since furry fandom is focused on original characters, I'm not sure what subject matter gets sold.

For example, if you get commissioned work, is it acceptable to ask the client permission to sell merch of their character?

Only merch ideas I can think of besides original characters is Beastars, Aggretsuko, and Zootopia stuff.
