IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Sup friends, first time I've posted, because I've not really been confident enough to post at all. I whipped this one up to try and work on colors, but I really hate my lines. They're chicken scratchy, but even when I draw longer lines, they just look kinda soulless. No matter how hard I try to copy a style, it just goes back to this. Any books I might read on linework? I understand I need to do my fundies a lot more too, but I only started drawing about 4 months ago, and am only getting serious about it now.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, though!

Not him but what's even the point of these simplifications if you are already supposed to know the form of the head to apply it?
It seems to me that to actually learn how to draw heads (and everything else) you have to simply memorize how to draw heads from every angle which later will combine into a 3D understanding of the form on its own.

Her arms and shoulders are two sizes too large.
Get the larger masses of muscles right first before trying to draw a bunch of details. Drawing muscles with lines tend to overstate them, which is okay during the sketching phase for not during rendering.

How the fuck do I draw ellipses. I've been doing this almost 2 years now and I still can't put down a circle. I can do other shapes in perspective fine but ellipses are seemingly impossible.
I thought if I just keep trying eventually it'd click but it hasn't and I'm clearly missing something but I don't know what. Everything people say to figure them out with doesn't actually give me any understanding of how to draw them. I can see that I'm doing them wrong and check to see that it's wrong but none of these help me with this. I can still produce work that looks "ok" but it takes in insane amount of time compared to what I should be able to do because I have to sit around working on shit over and over and anything with complex perspective that isn't just fucking cubes is seemingly impossible for me.

Please tell me one of you has the solution I'm missing this is legitimately bothering me and I don't understand how to fix this.

Stop thinking of them as paint, and actual objects that lay over the skin, and have volume, and move with the body. The right, upraised arm, the sleeve would pull towards the shoulder more, and slack areas would have folds and wrinkles. Clothes are easy to study, they're all around us. Look how clothes move with the body, and change shape when the body does.

I've made a full drawing after a long time without drawing properly. I want to ask there is someway to get better with messy chicken lines? Does peter han line exercise and draw a box ghosting works? Also does the size of the paper influence your drawing, I always draw in A4 paper when it's difficult to draw the face/hands/feet properly because when I draw a full size figure it gets so small (like this drawing). And drawing digital is better because you have and infinite sized paper? Also copy another person artwork, like this one, is good to learning or it's better to only copy real people? Also I don't have a good camera/scanner, but this drawing looks good? I'm aware of the hands, feet and hair that didn't look good.

>> No.4303658

>>4303635
>to make the legs look farther away
In what way? Should they look further away because they are further away from the camera compared to the top of the body, or because one of the legs is bending backwards away from the camera?
The former wouldn't work here because you've positioned the camera so that the head and the legs are equally distanced from the camera. The latter wouldn't work because both legs appear to stand firmly on the ground.
Excuse the lack of correct terminology, but you should get the idea.

The problem here is that you've made an attempt by drawing the head at that angle but then drew everything else as if the front of the figure is facing the camera, rather than the top.
>the only thing you dont see the top of is one of the shoulders because it has to be angled that way for the arm to come forward.
I assume you're talking about the left arm here. Why would that arm come "forward" if the camera is above, rather than in front of it?

First thing you need to do is draw a horizon line. Then, for two point perspective, you need to put two dots (vanishing points) spaced apart from one another on the horizon. All horizontal tangent lines should trace back to one of these two dots. For three point perspective, put a third vanishing point in the sky in between the two horizontal vanishing points. All vertical lines will trace back to this third vp.

The colors you choose look great! However, the line work is very poor. The lines are very jagged at points and looks very inconsistent. I would recommend practicing on drawing smoother lines.
there's a part in the drawing where parts of the women's thigh just warps around the hand. It all looks very strange.
I can see a lot of potential and you remind me of when I was younger! Just keep drawing what you love and I'm sure you'll improve.

The linework is cleaner without color, but I just don't know yet how to manipulate layers just yet so I can color within the lines instead of accidentally taking chunks out of them. I also have to do the naked version since the clothed version is a mess because I forget what layer I'm on and might color half on one layer, the other on the other layer, etc. Also, thanks, I appreciate that comment!

have being like 8 months or more since the last time I did a drawing, and I told myself, I will get back and do better right now.
And decided to just do something simple, do a drawing based on thouse word challenges...
But suddently... I cant draw anaything.
I start doing some lines, trying to put an outline, but suddently notice that it suck or is ugly or I dont like it, and erase the damn thing.
That would not be a problem, except I think I have done it like 5 times, and have nothing.
I dont plan to post it anywere, so there should not be presure on it looking ugly....
But Im just erasing the damn thing...

All do from imagination now is just Loomis heads of anime characters bland as background NPCs and stiff bodies built like legos with unnatural poses tought of at the moment when just one year ago I uselt to draw more military and medieval stuff

You have to draw, if you fell uncomfortable drawing from imagination just copy other artists work and do exercises. You'll never get better if you don't draw and you can't wait for the inspiration hits your in the head, you have to do it little by little everyday until it become a routine. What makes a good reference photo? Like these thumbnails are examples of what I like to use, but I just don't know what makes for good ones

why is this /beg/? you guys are all way above my level.
What exercises should I be doing? I've tried doing that grid drawing for line confidence, and just attempting a lot of horizontal and vertical lines in general. And then I've done some guesture drawing. Is there a better exercise for line confidence? What other exercises do you guys recommend?

you don't necessarily need to follow all of these things but in general: lighting, pose, and perspective. frankly, youre just picking hot chicks. that doesn't matter. you don't want to use a picture taken from a weird angle when you're just learning. and especially bad lighting.

the point of the lightining is so you can do a value study. if you had to recreate the picture using only 5 shades of gray. so you want it clear, one light source. so that you can learn how shapes reflect light and create shadows. washed out or shadowey selfies are no good. also, i see way too often where people use pictures of these girls with no feet or hands, or the phone covering their face. pick a nice post so you can understand what their body is doing, so it has a nice flow, and so you can see all of it. and also, a lot of these selfies are sort of looking up at or down at the girls. that perspective is complicated and its just going to take away from the appeal of the drawings, as well as make it harder for you to learn proportion . you're gonna be confused why her legs are so short and end up drawing a dwarf and wonder why she doesn't look hot.

Try tracing over reference photos if you can, preferably with digital so you can quickly undo shitty strokes until the right one lands. After that, try sketching beside a reference, then sketching a reference you have to spend longer time looking away from

did pic related with the latter method for an ancient /soc/ thread before I realized my desk was making all my drawings disproportionately large at the top (lol)

don't be intimidated. drawabox has some stuff early on that will help with line confidence. ghosting lines is important for making clean lines so learn that especially. it's helpful to do some stuff with no pencil so you can't erase, felt liner only. forces you to become more efficient and get better with your linework
then you could take that and apply it by doing some still lifes which will help you learn how to xerox what you're looking at to some degree.

I see, okay. I try to vary my references and pick good ones. I know what you mean about weird angles with them facing up/down, or the face being covered. The more professional models tend to do, well, more professional full body shots that are more useful than the shadowy mirror selfies. I'm using /hr/ for the photoshoots that get posted there as well as following select models that post high quality poses
