Anybody interested in grinding FDFAIW through the end of the month?

Feeling pretty stuck in regards to improving and I've never actually gone through this book outside of a few pages on proportions and the mannequin. Thinking of grinding the book through the end of January?

Anyone else interested?

I figure just posting studies from whatever chapter you're currently at would work best. No deadlines, no stress, just try to get through a much of the book as you can. I figure the less qualifiers, the better.

If you guys want a discord server i can set one up.

You're trying too hard to copy the exact simplified forms that Loomis uses. That's not really the point, focus on slowing down and getting the propotions and placements of your marks on the page accurately.

brute memorization isn't everything, but it's still very important.

dave rapoza would draw the same muscle 18 times then do it that many times from imagination again to memorize. other people on CA did the same thing, grind from ref - > grind from memory - > repeat until solidified into muscle memory at which point you can change it to fit your style

Of course, but I feel like that comes after you have a decent understanding of shapes and form.

but they will get there by themselves eventually , so much anxiety on this board

I'll definitely slow down and try to get the proportions right, but isn't the point of the early exercises to give you something to build off of? Wouldn't I want to copy it to get a feel for it?

>> No.4302558

>>4302448
Copying it is fine, you are basically just taking notes for yourself to remember the info.
But the way I did it is to go through the steps of
1. copy exact drawings in book on 1 topic (e.g. mannequin)
2. Redraw the mannequin from memory in the same poses as the book.
3. Now that I know how to construct the mannequin, I use photo ref of models and draw the mannequin in their pose.
4. After doing this a ton, I try to invent poses using the mannequin.

I suppose so. I thought I was decent at guesstimating proportion but then I exposed myself by trying to nail the proportions in the book.

Anyways, studied Chapter 2 of FDFAIW and chapter one of Drawing the Heads and Hands tonight. Skeletons and muscles continue to be super hard to draw.

definitely feel like I'm understanding more. Feel free to ignore my posts. I do more from imagination than I copy tho.

Before I go to chapter 3, I've gotta get more familiar with these bones muscles, especially the joint sections. I've been drawing the elbow/forearm all wrong. Same with the knee.
