IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

>Going Digital
>Cintiq
That’s basically like drawing on paper. I don’t know about anyone else but I usually think of screenless tablets when someone says they’re “going digital” since you basically have to learn how to draw again.
>Draws for 7 days
>Should I spend 2,000 for something I might stop using next week?
I can’t believe that people actually decide to throw so much money at some device when most artists who buy Cintiqs have been drawing for years either traditionally or on screenless tablets.

But honestly I’m just a poorfag that is jelly that you don’t think there’s anything wrong with blowing a couple grand on a hobby you barely started and not even sure you’ll want to continue doing beyond a few months.

>> No.4295450

>>4295435
For quick sketching. You can’t really quick sketch with your wrist without getting chicken-scratchy lines.
But I still think you should practice drawing lines from your wrist and from your elbow/shoulder since you want to be able to render details. Just prioritize elbow/shoulder lines over wrist lines.

>> No.4295453

>> No.4295461

>>4295453
The problem is that people on here—and I’m assuming on Reddit—aren’t specific about their advice.
They’ll say things like “you have to draw from your shoulder” without also telling you that there is a time and a place in drawing from your wrist.
It’s a problem that occurs because artists forget about specific things like this since it’s ingrained into their subconscious. They have to actually work hard to retrieve that knowledge from their subconscious which most people won’t really do because it seems like a waste of time.
This is why people like Kim Jung Gi can’t teach and why most good artists give good but vague advice which is why it’s a but annoying when people think “pyw” somehow proves anything. I can see how it works when someone says something stupid that is obviously /beg/ mentality but when someone challenges a position, I don’t particularly think that the first thing the poster has to do is post their work but instead be challenged on their idea. That way we can have more mature conversations and we can actually learn from each other rather than crabbing.
>Nice blog post.

Anime style is a simplification of anatomy, not stickers put down on a page. Try to learn some actual head proportions and then when you can draw accurate faces then you can work on stylisation and simplication by removing certain details or hinting at a nose with a thin line, etc.

For your sake, all the facial features are flat like stickers, the eyes are an ok distance apart but the top of the head is quite flat (like having a traumatic injury at a young age or deformity). The shadow on the neck isn't matched by any sort of significant shading on the face to imply some sort of 3d model. If you want it to completely look like a sticker then don't shade at all. If you want to shade then commit all the way. Read books like loomis, and read sticky

The decorations look like you are a girl (not that that's anything bad, just stands out)
First thing, the eyes seem to sit on a straight line while the hair suggests to me that we aren't looking at her straight on. The eyes and lips look very unappealing to me, I'd try emulating a few different artists who you like for those features and encorporate what you learned. Don't use pure black for the eye outline but also use some darker outliens for the other stuff. Hair looks a lot better than the face so I'd definitely focus on faces for now.

Nothing wrong with stylization, but always keep form in mind and study real faces at some point in order to better understand how to stylize (especially in different perspectives).

I have never painted or have previous experience before but I recently acquired two canvases that have paintings on them. Build a website, blog and post often
Instagram, deviant art, tumblr
follow cool art people, use good tags, get that SEO out there.
Figure out your favorites and best pieces and get prints made with cardboard backing and clear wrap.
Go to local events and shill your work, use your friends that have events or bars around town to set up little tables.
Join local art communities. Go to conventions.

It's a business, just like anything else. You'd do the same thing for a band.

Are there any easier things I should start first that would help me practice one building block?

You are getting better mate, this one is a bit of asymmetrical. Now I know faces are usually asymmetrical but this is a bit too much.

Again I repeat my worry is that your faces all have one single expression that is looking forward dead on. So far you are doing good but do try vary it up. A face can have dozens of different expressions an can be drawn from different angles. Learning those can get you great mileage! Go for it!

For one thing, you have the metalman problem with your values. Try loading up a photo of a woman with the kind of skin you were going for and put it into grayscale (don't desaturate, that's different, pic related)
Compare the darkest darks with your darkest darks and then the lightest lights with yours, and how fast the transitions are.
>>4298138
The values are better in this one, might be an accident because of the darker skin tone though. Vary the hue a bit more when you work with color(use the color picker on some piece of artwork and watch how much it changes from light to dark on an object that has the same local color)
Also you should paint a face from ref now before doing another one of these, I did it like you for a while and that's definitely slower, the best is to work in tandem.
