Opinions on photo bashing

I like those drawing by some Russian guy that drew anime girls in realistic environments.

I know it’s not photobashing (he actually draws them) but it looked like the pic shown so I thought I’d mention it.

Not exactly sure what photobashing is though besides the fact that if you do it you’re evidently not a real artist.

He wasn't a professional though he was an amateur artist basically selling his work on the streets with his best friend.
>In 1998 Takeuchi formed the doujin circle ‘Takebouki’ with his friend since middle school Kinoko Nasu. With the later addition of Takeuchi’s former colleague and programmer from Compile Kiyobee (清兵衛) and the songwriter Keita Haga (芳賀 敬太), the circle developed into TYPE-MOON. Shortly after work began on TYPE-MOON’s first game Tsukihime, OKSG, who Takeuchi had met on the Takebouki homepage, joined the circle as manager of the website. As Takeuchi was still employed while working on Tsukihime he would work on the game until 4 AM after arriving home. Despite this schedule Takeuchi was able to produce around four hundred images for the game in seven months.

Clearly and simply its a hack move. How much you care, how much you viewers or employers care and how nice you make it look well, that will vary. But deep inside you know you'll never have the observational experiemce and practice to create basic composition. You wont be a draftman or drawer. You'll be an image editor. Again, the giving a shit of it varies

The magic of being 20-something. Fuck, wish I was doing that instead of drinking, watching movies and other worthless activities!

photobashing is nothing more than a technique. It will not make a crap painting great. It has to be done with great care and understanding in order for it to work.

Also, photobashing is commonly used in compositing or even matte painting. Its a technique that allows you to either use as a texture to bring more high frequency detail into your image or to use as a color key.

The last thing you need to know is that in the professional art world the only fucking thing that matters is not missing your deadlines. Period. Nobody gives a fuck HOW you get the results as long as you do it and not use copyrighted images and you meet the deadline.....and follow the design specs.

You can do this for any comic book too. You are complaining that an artist has a style.

I don't do it for personal work, but dude, if you gotta deliver a job that looks good, just do whatever it takes. Nobody cares about "cheating" depending on what the drawing is for. Of course some autist may point that a part of your painting is from picture x, just like they point how something isn't exactly like x or some other kind of small detail. So what?

this discussion is useless, somebody will always start it

there will always be some useless autist pointing all the small mistakes or photobashing or whatever cause they wanna feel relevant for once in their lives

So his are did not improve at all since 1998 in fact he has been drawing LITERALLY THE SAME FUCKING CHARACTER for 20 years. And now he is working for one of the biggest franchises ever.

I don't mind it as long as it isn't distracting and really obvious, Inio Asano photographs all his backgrounds but manages to integrate the character art pretty well.

When you're commissioned to draw, the end product is king. Nobody gives a fuck if the end product is artistically valid, they hired to to make a pretty picture.
Wouldn't condone it outside of commercial art, though.

What kind of drooling autist wants to spend ages on a perspective grid attaching lines to other lines at an angle? What is soulful about that? Is that kind of busywork what you aspire to as an artist? Nobody has ever been moved by something like that. It's like taking pride in doing math problems in your head when you have a calculator.

It's the same reason animation almost always looks beter when it doesn't rely heavily on motion tweens. Because if you have built in tools to help you make obvious choices more easily, you're more likely to take the easy way out.
