You have nice shapes going on, but the circular body is a little too dominant.
If you made the mouth of the cauldron larger and thicker, it'd be a more interesting prop overall.

Also the fuck's going on with that handle, resolve that area - look up tea kettles or smth, a cauldron has to be able to be lift up or tipped and poured out of. Design more.

It is less an issue of simplicity, and more that the shapes do not read well as eyelashes. You are basically symbol drawing them. Observing a real set of darkly mascara'd eyelashes (assuming that is the look you are going for) you can see they form more of a square shape rater than distinct triangles of lashes (a look which in real life is considered very undesirable)

No sense of depth. Objects closest to the camera are traditionally to have the highest amount of contrast while objects farthest away have the least amount, which gives the piece a greater sense of depth. The giant purple dude should have a fogginess to him if you wanted to illustrate his gargantuan size. Because as it stands right now, everything looks to be as though they occupy the same plane, so the purple dude doesn't feel as huge as it should be.

Another thing is that the value composition is weak, I feel like you wanted the focus to be on the girl (or maybe even the purple giant), but you felt like every aspect of the image should be given the same amount of "love and attention" so it's not immediately clear where one should start looking. Additionally, it doesn't help that the background is largely the same color as the girl's hair color and skin tone, so it makes the girl subject stand out even less. I suggest perhaps darkening the characters in the foreground while leaving the background elements untouched to give greater contrast between the two planes while also addressing the issue with the girl subject blending into the background elements.

There are also some minor gripes I personally have issue with regarding the composition of the picture, but it's too subjective to be worth giving as a critique.

I think the work process I go through in making mechs would go something like:

>Is it ground, aerial, or water based?
>Is it a offensive, defensive, support, or special unit?
>Can I incorporate things into the design from real life? i.e, basing it from an animal/ existing machinery, certain name choice, mythology reference, other media reference, etc.,

It usually goes like that, but there are instances where I make a design because of something that I thought was interesting. This one, for example, came from looking at pistol shrimp videos, so I made the design to include a tail with an end part that mimics the shrimps snapping effect and just added parts that established it as a water unit.

Other times, I end up overcomplicating things and end up making stories of designs rather than drawing them directly.

Colors and values turned out a bit basic but it was fun practice with hard/soft round + lassoo on a single color layer. Gonna draw greyscale for a while now I think, and use G-pen or something instead of flat
