>9 year old nephew visits
>sees my shitty /beg/ tier drawings/studies
>”wow anon you draw so good!!! can you teach me how to draw manga?”

What do I do in a situation like this? I told him to ask me in a year when I get better but he really is eager to learn how to draw despite my drawings suck. I wish he asked years later though.

Just refer him to Loomis and he will surpass you in less than a year.

Get him a sketch book and tell him to copy stuff until he’s old enough for loomis. He’s probably going to get bored in a few days though

jesus christ anon it's a 9 year old stop acting like a spaz. just teach him how to doodle cartoony shit step by step like those children cartooning books.

>> No.4267217

try to have fun drawing for once in your life, your 9 yo nephew is not going to judge you if your drawing isn’t perfect so you should be able to throw caution to the wind and just have fun teaching him loomis heads or cartoons or whatever.

Find a decent how to draw manga book and learn from it together. He thinks you're cool; you might as well spend time with him and learn some tricks too.

Learn how to construct an anime head and learn proportions then teach it to him. He's just a kid, his drawings are gonna suck whether or not you're good anyways.

Just teach him basic construction. You don't even have to know shit about drawing jap style That's really as far as you need to go. I think he can figure it out from there.

Yea. Fuck learning the proportions of an actual human head. Skip all that complicated portrait shit and skip straight into anatomy. Then your Nephew will be another generic anime artists like most of the people on this board.

>> No.4267283

Just teach him what you can, teaching him will also help you to get better at drawing since you will put more though into actually understanding what are you doing, in order to explain it to him in simplest possible way

Lmao you've never had to spend much time around kids have you? They don't give a fuck at that age they just want to get into drawing and they're going to find a way to draw what they want one way or another. It's better to teach them legitimate anime proportions and construction guides rather than leave them to go seek it out themselves and end up drawing like crilley or something.

I taught my nephew some super basic animu shit a few years ago and he found that he really enjoys drawing. Gave him some art supplies and a few books. Lately he's been annoyed with how limited he is by anime style only and has been practicing fundamentals with me. When I sit down to draw fruit for a study, he's next to me drawing fruit and asking for advice when he's stuck.

If anime gets kids interested in art and you guide them to fundamentals when they get sick of symbol drawing, I see nothing wrong with it. As long as they're having fun and getting into art, who cares?

I’m just venting you sensitive cunts.

Teach that kid whatever they want to learn.

I’m just a bit put off by the fact that most people here skip portrait drawing and use anime faces and weird head proportions to draw a head just to skip to the rest of the anatomy—which isn’t even as difficult. Just look at the draw thread.

All the people here have no clue about mentoring, what the fuck.
You have to chase him away with a stick to test his determination. If he doesn't drop after being beaten for 6 months you accept him as your disciple. For the first two years, you send him on errands like fetching water and splitting logs. Then you tell him how to sharpen a pencil and have him sharpen your pencils for another year. After buying yourself these three years and six months to master Loomis you tell him to start grinding boxes.

It was only last night. Kind of sad to see, but her mom is dumb as a rock and has no personality so the kid is growing up in (american) football and country music culture. When I was talking to her she was a bit dismissive as kids are at that age. But when I showed her how she could draw a horse from more than just profile if she learns how to apply the construction she seemed genuinely interested. I see a lot of myself in her and how she was raised, in our family art is encouraged but not nurtured because everyone is just dumb. So theres a lot of back patting and "dang, u draw gud!" But nothing constructive. I hope I made some kind of impact.
