If you're implying fast improvement comes from talent then there's some truth to that but realistically, hard work is the most reliable and the most time-tested. A good teacher is meant to keep you from repeating the same mistakes and instill you with good habits, the less mistakes you make, the better artist you become. Then you apply what you've taken from the teacher and put in the hours, repeat until not shit. If you somehow still suck, you might just be an idiot.

10 Months (Let's say there are 29 days in a month)

Draws for 8 Hours a day
= 2,320 Hours

Draws for 12 Hours a day
= 3,480 Hours

Draws for 16 Hours a day
= 4,640 Hours

Combine that with the fact that they're also getting critiques and actually taught how to improve rather than having to figure it out themselves, I can see how this is likely.

Self-taught + Infinite Amount of Hours ≠ Getting Good at Drawing.

If you want to spend that much time drawing, you have to go to a school or get a tutor.

>>4254164
Yea, I know. I used to do 10 Hour days but the only reason I was able to do this was because all I did was copy lines/contours rather than understanding what I drew.

It wasn't until I dialed down the amount of time I worked and spend more time studying from actual courses--while also learning the fundamentals--that I actually started to make improvements.

Yeah it's really easy to just start thinking that drawing a lot = fast improvement. But it's not, and it's more dependent on what you do during your drawing time instead of how much you do it. Otherwise you stagnate and repeat bad habits, getting them more ingrained in your head through repetitions.

It's called go to art school or motivate yourself to do focused study every day and show your work to people who will critique you honestly. Get advice from people better than you, too.

It's not hard to figure it out. It's just hard to do and everyone on /ic/ wants to be skilled without putting in the hours to get there.
