As someone that does not want to draw anime but does want to draw cute girls, I've been trying to figure out this very question for my own drawings.

Feels like it's going to look weird or derivative no matter what; Japan monopolized cute girls and we're stuck with strange Disney hybrids.

The way you draw faces says "I desperately don't want to be someone who draws anime, since that's embarrassing, but that aesthetic is actually what my work needs". It looks like you took an anime face and shoehorned in some western-style features.
At this point I think studying some face anatomy would do some good for you. At some point your approach will change completely.

Why don't you want to draw anime? Is it because you don't like anime or because you think it's embarrassing or unoriginal? You should really just draw how you like without being afraid of being labelled "anime" There's a lot of stylistic variety within "anime" so if you do your fundies and don't literally try to copy someone else it'll come out in your "style" whether you like it or not.

I guess I chose the wrong words. It's not that I specifically want to avoid drawing anime or am embarrassed; more that I find it a little boring and I'm bad at it (always comes out flat and can't control their age for the life of me, to name a couple) and hence decided not to bother and find something I prefer. If I work at it, I could get better, but as said, I don't find it as interesting.

The issue is that I do like the cute results. Can't say the same for the stuff that feels more western. Liking the process but disliking the result versus disliking the process but liking the result. And in the end, I'm drawing how I currently am and overall like it, even if people think it looks odd.

As you mentioned though, anime isn't just one thing, so there's most likely styles I'd actually enjoy, but haven't really put much research into it.
