I've been practising visualizing, I look at something for a few seconds and then close my eyes and try to imagine it in front of me. I've gotten better at it over time, still tough though

NMA - An Introduction to Drawing for Beginners

is what I'd recommend to ANY beginner. It has all the basic concept that you need to be able to start studying on your own.

Idea is first, means second. You must love the idea more than the actual product.

That way the drawing is just a way to praise something you already like. Does that make sense

It's something you will never be "good" at. So stop expecting it to click in totality. Everyone on this board considers me to have "made it" but I still think I'm shit at drawing, I can draw a perfect face, I can paint a perfect body, not not efficiently so what does that make me? Am I bad at drawing? Am I good?

It's not that simple. just keep drawing and seek those little successes here and there that show you are improving. If you think about it, drawing/painting is an art with infinite depth you can literally NEVER encapsulate all of it. So again, just keep doing it and enjoy the little bits that you do manage to capture. That is the secret to it all clicking.

What do you not get about drawing? Is it the motivation? Like you don't have a goal in mind or something? Or is it the learning? Like you don't get any of the learning material you have now?

The way i resolved these problems is by finding out the source. Powerpuff bitches is what got me started as a little kid for motivation. Then i found out i sucked and tried to quit but was forced into a situation where i had nothing to do but draw due to being poor and house bound as fuck.
You need a spark to help you get going, you can't just sit around and give up until something comes along. The spark comes from your end goal which can be being a "gud artist" or just wanting to impress your mom with your shitty hentai. Both are good drawing goals.

In the beg stage it's ez to self crituque. Be smart and actually look at what you're getting wrong. Mistakes are key factors to overcoming beginner.

Still not "getting" it? Look at other artists paintings and sketches. Good and bad. How does it make you feel? What ticks you off? Do you want to do better than them? Feeling horrible about your own art? Good. NOW FUCKING GET OFF OF 4CHAN AND GO DRAW RETARD I'M SICK OF SEEING THREADS LIKE THIS.
