Huh, alright. Nemmie is an amazing person who tries to be as helpful as they can, Will's a great friend and his determination is incredibly admirable. I wish I knew Vusta and Nessie a bit better, they seem like genuinely kind people. Banoon's wholesome and tries his best, Kringle has loads of energy and always does her best, Chooby's a good lad and always there to help organise things. AutoRiev's a new addition to the bunch but he's a solid guy who's constantly trying to help others improve and encourage them. Finlay's passion is palpable and the guy's creativity fuels everyone else's art drive. Cath goes through most people's submissions and is quick to point out things he enjoys, while listening to feedback and improving a lot, while Nirest is gentle and feels comfy with what she draws. I'm proud of all the daddies.

I don't know these guys as friends but they too deserve to be mentioned.
Beanhead has been steadily improving, his little cars are so much fun to look at, and Peltingfury has been trying out new things constantly, upping their skill and exploring new things to challenge themselves. Nyroc's stuff is amazing lately, they're getting better day by day, witnessing their journey almost feels like a privilege. Hoppy's young but hard working and you can already tell he'll go far in his career.

There is a slight truth to this but the VAST majority of people aren't "talentless", they are just studying improperly or not enough. In a sense most "talented" people just have a propensity for retaining visual information and hand eye coordination. That doesn't mean people with difficulty doing those things can't learn to draw well, it just takes more time and effort or a kick in the ass to get out of their comfort zone.

It's just the defeatist /ic/ mentality that I fundamentally disagree with. They label themselves and others as "talentless" to find a reason why they're failing and stagnating, rather than being constructive or working harder.
People have propensities or "talents", but the biggest brick wall people hit when trying/failing to learn a new skill is a mental one. Get past that mental wall and you can move forward.

It is a way of shifting blame, you aren't failing to make progress because you're not pushing yourself or using poor practice methods, it's because you're untalented. In your analogy the lazy bum is probably just capable of looking at his art critically even when just doing minimal art, he's probably still using his the analytic side of his brain while drawing even if it's minimal, while the person who draws mindlessly over years simply doesn't know how to look at his art critically or see and learn from his mistakes. I think explaining to someone how to look at their art ACTIVELY is very difficult, and that's probably why so many people don't improve.
Art just has always fascinated me because of how much mental/physical energy it takes despite being sedentary and seemingly "mindless". I'm sure if you could have a "talented" person explain every single thought process behind each line drawn, the mental checks and reasoning would be much more complicated than a "ngmi" who might just only recall base level information and perform it incorrectly.
If someone is incapable to learn how to look and recall visual information then maybe they are "talentless" but again, I just think it's hard for me to use that term for people who very well may be extremely talented but just need someone standing over their shoulders for a bit to tell them how to look at their art.

the timeframe doesn't matter, you can say you've been practicing for two years but it doesn't mean shit if you only put in half an hour a day on average. a lot of people seriously underestimate how much time it takes practicing, taking in new information and combating against self doubt. just don't ignore fundamentals and apply them whenever you can
