Why do some artists (like on Twitter or Tumblr) don't want you to repost their art somewhere else? Isn't it positive to see that people like your art and share it, as long they're not pretending that they drew it?

>> No.4200815

They don't like it because the traffic goes to the reposter, not the original artist

>> No.4200817

So what? It's up to you to include a watermark, and a person who genuinely likes your art will start to ask who this talented artist is. In fact, people will get even more interested.

I never got it either. I've seen fanart blogs on tumblr repost artists' work from other sites and they always got screeching faggots sending them messages about how they should "reblog not repost" (even though the artist was properly credited in the repost).

Boohoo your blog wasn't directly attached, it's still your work getting exposure with you being credited. Why the fuck should it matter if a third party posted it?

Watermarks are for pussies.

I don't know I used to post art anonymously and it'd make me feel pretty happy seeing it reposted over and over. Now I put my signature and am glad if people are helping out with exposure. The people who scrub signatures are dicks, though.

If a third party posts my shit then that click/view/attention is just on that piece of art on that other person's page. If my art is only posted on my page then all of that traffic is mine which means that there's a higher chance I can convert those viewers into followers or even convert them into patrons or merch buyers. Yes its true that by strictly numbers if my page regularly gets 1k views and someone else's page gets 2k views then 3k is larger than 1k, but 2/3rds of those views are on someone else's page meaning I have fuck all control over if those people find me, let alone if I can then convert them, or even worse, if that other person's page nabs them and gets them to buy their merch because they were drawn to their page off my art. People are especially lazy when it comes to the internet and so if they have to look at a watermark and then search up that name or reverse search the image just to find me then those views might as well have been nonexistant.

I will admit though that I personally think its dumb to put "do not repost/reuse" on your blog because trying to stop the internet from pirating things is a sisyphean task, but I do understand the initial reasoning.

>> No.4200895

Danbooru has gold membership to paywall art they don't own and other similar websites have a patreon page. That's even worse.
Those repost blogs are just about reposting to get followers and eventually use it to advertise something like a generic printondemand shop.

You must be a pussy then because you're watermarking his post.

They won’t go to the original artist faggot. People are fucking lazy, so they will follow the reposter instead. Look at the Instagram art reposters and their large following.

Who wants braindead followers?

>> No.4201035

i use instagram a lot and follow some repost pages. i usually follow the artist they credit. i dont see the problem with it.

But those brainddead followers might have money, so it’s worth dealing with them.

No that is not how this works. People that are "genuinely interested" are an extremely low percentage of the traffic that random clicks generate. The vast majority does not care about the source of the image the just click on the image, if they like it they maybe save it and then move on with their day and it ends there, this is the reality of the world we live in. Furthermore that is how click traffic is made, that is how the ad revenue come in that is what algorithms are looking for.

Reblog channels basically serve as the "middleman" in the traditional commercial sense one that collects goods together and hands them further to those that need it in one convenient and comfortable place. The difference is that they pay nothing to the original creator they just take it and throw it out for everyone. That is why creators are realizing that since they have no choice but to paywall their stuff because others will easily profit out of their hard work while giving them nothing and without even their knowledge.

Geez it's so damn simple. it's like you have never been to the Internet before...

Because it's usually content farms reposting without giving any credit. I don't mind if some dude shared my work on a Facebook group because he thinks it's cool. But I don't want content farm pages taking credit for and profiting from my work without even getting credit
