You can approach it however you want, but that's the way I tend to do it.
Either I try to replicate features from a ref, or I just go wild with my imagination and produce something. Method A tends to produce more satisfying end results for me.

Unfortunately I don't have any good examples, but if you use a reference photo then try and replicate that. Or even better, use multiple references and combine them into something new (so take the face from one reference, but maybe get a body and pose from another reference, and a third reference for the background)

But this is turning into a case of the blind leading the blind so I'd appreciate someone that knows what they are doing helping this daddy out.

Set a challenge for yourself, and then try to attempt it with all of your energy and heart.

Are you mostly drawing perspective boxes? Then today is the day to draw a table top with a bunch of wheels and dice and pencils all piled up in perspective. Don't stop at the sketch phase, give it some shadows and really try to put every technique you have into it.

Do you keep drawing gestures studies without aim? Then today is the day to put anatomically accurate muscles on top of that figure. Draw them standing on a plane in perspective. Bring that gesture into something.

Do you keep drawing anime girls in the same 3/4 pose facing to the left? Then today is the day to draw them from above, or in a sword fight, or flying. Find a reference from an artist you admire and try to imitate their pose or style.

Remember that we're not doing studies to get good at drawing studies. We're doing studies to build up skills that we can apply in our artwork.

in my understanding, a finished work for me usually means something that I did from imagination, regardless if I used refs or not and is not a study of an existing artwork. Do you have something that you wanted to draw? Stop your dabs and figure studies right now and go draw what you want until it's finished. It'll usually suck but at least you tried.

Oneiro copies are great but I'm unsure if it's helping his actual work since I can't tell sometimes. And for Arma it looks like he has a decent workflow. I just can't stand posing 3D models--it's a pain in the ass. I asked some pro artist I followed after observing his works as there was a huge leap in his skill. 7b seems to be putting in good volume into the right exercises. my main gripe is he uses this all-too-common smooth type of linework that i dislike, which always feels low-energy to me.
if you look at his recent bird submission, i dislike (2) because of how ill boring the round forms are, while the most interesting are 6,7,8,9, especially 7,8, because the vulture forces him to use more challenging silhouettes and create more interesting lines.

i think he should spend more time on sometime like keys to drawing from bert dodson to loosen up his linework, or even doing studies of artists with strong, kinetic linework.

i do wish that he'd try drawing things other than anime characters (especially backgrounds) or experimenting w/ studies of some artists i consider more interesting, but ultimately it's his choice (im a stickler for big visual libraries)

hes got amazing use of line weight and hatching, i dont always love how the proportions come out (ive always had mixed opinions on Jamie Hewlett sort of Gorillaz/TankGIrl like art...) it takes a lot of skill to make a style like this work at higher levels of detail and still read very well, especially in landscapes (see oct 14.) so i respect it immensely though

Your stuff has a lot of heart and soul, so I hope you don't lose that. Despite not sharing the same kink, I know that you'll have a lot of success if you keep at it.

That being said... you use hyper as a crutch. Why bother studying 3d forms, gesture, or anatomy when you can inflate them into squishy spheres each time and make that the focus of the picture, right? When you remove the hypervore aspects, your style is a cute, but common, cartoonish take on furries.

People give you well deserved compliments around here because you have strong appeal in your current works, but it starts to weaken upon closer scrutiny.

Build up the courage to draw outside of your cartoony comfort zone. Show us a skeleton, a landscape, a realistic portrait, a study in composition or color theory, something that pushes your boundaries. If you find the ability to expand yourself (pun intended) then those artistic gains can be brought back into your favorite fetish content. Study someone like slugbox or modeseven as examples of how your style could be less "flat cartoon" and more "this dude knows his stuff" cartoon.

Trying things way out of your skill level exposes you to the reality of your current skillset. It's way better than staying in your comfort-zone and never experimenting.

The very fact that you can spot that something has gone wrong means you're going to know when it looks right. Keep trying, don't be afraid of the failures. Put them behind you and you'll do great.

The beauty of drawing every day is that pretty soon today's failure is old news.
