**Don’t aimlessly study the fundamentals or anime. Learn the fundamentals (form, values, color, composition, etc.) through properly copying anime.**

How to study anime/get better at imagination drawing/obtain a style/etc.:
>Find an anime reference you like (an illustration, screenshot, anime figure, 3D model, etc.)
>Find learning material that will help you reconstruct your ref using simpler fundamental elements
>Trace the ref using that construction
>Copy the ref using that construction
>Draw the ref from memory that using construction
>Repeat the process for the same ref multiple times and mix in other refs
>After studying a lot of refs, drawing from your head will become easier

**Focus on Tracing/Copying/Memory drawing the big shapes/values/elements first then later worry about the finer details. Focus on only a portion of a complex ref first then move on to studying the full ref.**

General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

This is my first attempt at trying to 'study' other peoples work I feel like i understood very little. I also feel like theres alot of infomation i wasnt able to pickup because of different mediums and my very crude understanding of clothing and hair. The colors don't seem to be toned well and highly saturated, they feel a bit "apart" and in my opinion it causes the drawings to not feel delicate. The girls she draws don't seem very subtle nor cute because of this, and also because of the expressions. They lack the shyness seen in most anime illustrations. The hair feels plasticky and mostly shaded with the same hue. The composition is very bland, as every character is in the center of the image which makes the drawings non-immersive. Her jaws are often spiky, I don't think what she draws is cute, it doesn't give me the gentle feeling. One of my favorite artists is pic related, and... she just doesn't seem to have it

I recommend putting in the nipples, it'll help you get a better idea of where the boobs are facing. Tits aren't perfect spheres so that's kinda relevant.
Are you gonna give her a bikini or is she supposed to stay nude? Because wether or not she's wearing anything will affect how her boobs should look. A bra or bikini will squish them together and upwards, but if she's nude they'll point away from each other and more.
You also need to take the shape of the ribcage more into consideration, it's not a flat surface.

But honestly, you have bigger problems than tits. Aside from the backwards foot her hand holding the glass is also backwards - either that or she has a disturbingly fat pinky.
And that stretched out leg looks messed up, the shape needs to go inwards at the back of the knee, the broades part of the lower leg comes after that. Think about where there needs to be space for the leg to bend!
Perspective of the wall behind her doesn't match the character.

Face and hair are the best parts so far, it's clear that you have more experience with those than with the rest, so keep practicing your anatomy.

Hi /asg/ so now that I have finally finished Inktober I am back again ringing you the 41-50 batch of the mad quest of studying the faces of that gif.

My current feelings are slightly underwhelming, maybe because of Inktober or something. I had to take days of breaks from this because Inktober and IRL shit cutting into my time, right now I do not feel confident about learning it more. It feels like I have regressed during this batch linework doesn't look appropriate and I had troubles finding the proportions many times. Perhaps I just got Dunning-Krueger'd and didn't take it seriously enough while working on it.

But rest assured I am not stopping I have came to the halfway mark this project will be finished. I am still not confident in trying something similar on my own but I may just be out of practice. Maybe I should try a set that is my own now that we are at the halfway mark just to see?

As usual I will post the total progress (if the file is not too large again) and the soul.

Certainly better than before, but that stretched out leg still looks messed up. You might wanna look up a reference for that and fix it.

The foot that's standing up also has a strange shape, feet usually get wider towards the toes, not narrower. I understand that you're going for a profile view, but there's still more of an outwards curve towards the front.
Lastly, this is more of an aesthetic thing, but I wouldn't recommend drawing in such defined toenails unless you're also drawing in defined fingernails - the more detail a section of an illustration has, the more attention it draws from the viewer. Most artists just imply nails or even leave them out altogether unless they have a more detailed/realistic style. Of course, it's perfectly fine to draw feet with lots of detail if you find them sexy and want people to look there, but in that case you'd have to seriously step up your foot game and make sure they look appealing.

You're not filling the space on the paper very well, but it's hard to tell how small you're really drawing without knowing the format. Assuming you aren't working bigger than typical sketchbook or printer paper size, try doing one face per page and actually filling the paper.
You could also try sketching in pen or a regular/non-erasable colored pencil. The results won't look great, especially not at first, but it'll speed up the process and force you to think more about where to place a line. And you can always do several attempts at the same face if the first one turns out horrible.

Pirate Proko's premium anatomy lessons from cgpeers, they really helped me in seeing the bones and their landmarks (warning they're REALLY cringy, but those dumb skeleton shorts kind of help you remember stuff). His critique videos included are pretty based. Also you have to start using forms, egg shape for the torso, bowl shape for the pelvis... It will make things way easier. Drawing the center line really helps. Look into Vilppu, Hampton, Huston before Proko's anatomy lessons. Not the whole books/videos, just the general torso and pelvis lessons for now. Very simplified so you're able to draw pic related. Your clavicles are extremely low BTW, you drew the line mark for clavicles but drew them separately and lower. You need to read/watch more, you will significantly improve after developing an understanding

Still looks incorrect with mouth, nose, jawline and hair 'thickness'.

Took 10 minutes for head construction alot of which i think was on making it so the lines dont look like ass. I tried to be more aware of not taking ages on it.
30 minutes for facial placement and details and other adjustments.
And 25 minutes for the hair, 7 of which was shape.

okay i suppose you were going for chibi -> normal from left to right. stylization requires you to have some visual library of human proportions first. looking at the "normal" stage i can tell you dont have one yet, the drawings are very stiff and flat. the exercise you attempted is actually hard, it requires multiple skills. i understand its challenging and interesting and i command your sentiment but you wont learn anything from it yet, many exercises do require some basic knowledge. for now i suggest you focus on studying refs and then trying to draw what you remember from imagination. dont get me wrong, you dont have to drop the anime stylization, choose whatever style you like, but it should come as secondary, studying proportions comes first.

>> No.4189718

>>4189671
When going for a chibi style, you need to place the eyes lower on the face - it's not enough to give the character a smaller body, you have to change the facial proportions as well or it starts looking more like a mature dwarf woman.
Watch the placement of the mouth also, it should be about halfway between nose and chin, some of yours have ended up too low on the face.

Generally, there are a lot of issues in terms of anatomy, but if you need something to start check out how arms connect to the torso, the way you're drawing it is hella wrong.
Practice some hands also - they're pretty much the second most important thing after the face.

Not a bad drawing, but it seems to get worse the further down you got. Either you really need to study bodies more and not just portraits, or you got lazy partway through drawing this.

Eyes aren't actually that bad, a big part of what makes her face look so weird is that the chin and nose don't line up. I'm not too keen on the shape of the mouth either, the corners look especially odd. I suggest doing some studies of smiles, both stylized and from photos.

Watch the proportion of the fingers, middle finger should be longest or you need to indicate that it is more bent than the others.

Clothing folds on the pants look pretty unappealing and the seam shouldn't suddenly go behind her leg but continue to go down the side of it.
How do the pants close? If you draw in details like seams you gotta include that too.

Don't worry about looking generic. Looking generic is better than looking terrible.

This is incredibly late in the thread but you are hatching without respect to tone. All your hatching is the same density and the result is extremely flat. You can fix this by starting with just two densities of hatching - select an area which you aim to be "dark" and hatch this very densely, then select anything else and hatch this sparsely.
With practice, you can change it to a dark region, a medium hatch, and a sparse hatch, then move on to figuring out more granular or graduated hatches.

It's obvious he's larping you naive /beg/ mongrel, it's visible he's legitimately good judging by his stroke and purposely pushed out horseface to imitate Western fujoshi crap.

Check 3LAMESTUDIO if you're unaware of this kind of larp being possible, they're seriously dedicated.

Keep projecting, though I admit I newly transferred to this shit board few months ago after 10 years on /e/. Apart from 3-10 posters, /asg/ is a seething talentless beginner cave and a waste of time. Think about why it's a desert given the amount of decent anime drawings thorough 4ch, nobody with respect for themselves comes here. Being on /ic/ for over 5 years and still going to /asg/ you must be a self conscious crab who simply doesn't have it and won't accept that. Loosely studying anime for a few months with only ~20 hours of head and hair study grind I've already surpassed all but like 3-4 posters in those threads, something anyone here could achieve if they stopped wasting time on this board arguing over tablet brands or shitting on sakimichan for the 473837th time.

If you wish to succeed then the first step is to leave this fucking thread, then leave this fucking board. I'm making it and found that surrounding myself with people of this mentality is the biggest cripple I need to leave behind. So if YOU, not (You), who is reading it, are one of the "sane" ones and not corrupted by this mentality, get out and surround yourself with professional artists, OCRing Japanese tutorials and books and actual criticism with no jealousy included. And go, study and make it, this is not a place for you to be. You know all you need to know, so go and make it like I do, leaving this trash board after gathering all artbook and videos I'll ever need (which is only a few).
