When I really want to focus on capturing all tonality, which in combination with form is softness, I draw like I'm painting.
For this picture, several delicate layers are needed for how light the tones are. It's hard to tell on camera but people often (frustratingly so) run their fingers over her torso when they see this study.

Doing studies of chubby girls usually helps. Not fat. Chubby.
