Holyshit, studying perspective is like studying the Calculus of art. I got the technical information down, but I just can't this shit into my hand. My brain hurts more trying not to over analyze it than analyzing it.

>> No.4176986

didn't you make this thread already?

>> No.4176987

The problem is they always teach you ideal scenarios and say "see how easy it is? Now you just have to apply it to more complex forms!!", but the first example you try on your own already has some exception that is too complex for that stage of the lesson, so you're forced to keep drawing cubes and any motivation from learning something goes away and all that remains is the broken illusion of the lesson.

Took me 4 different perspective books to understand, for instance, that you have to choose carefully where you place your vanishing points to avoid distortion - CONE OF VISION, MOTHERFUCKERS, HOW ABOUT YOU MENTION THAT STUFF BEFORE TELLING ME TO MAKE MY OWN VPS AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

This shit is a dead trade
Perspective to this degree used to be important for technical drawing like architecture, product design, interior design

but it's all done 3d now, all this information is completely useless, it is both faster and more effective to just do it 3d.
If you want to make pretty art, don't bother learning anything more than a basic understanding of vanishing points.
and if you want to be an architect, learn to do 3d

yeah I agree, I don't think we need to be overly calculating about perspective, I honestly just want to be able to do urban sketching better. But since I don't know my direction so I will have to suck this entire series up and pick the right lesson to practice on.
Each lesson is like 6 hours long and there are 16 of them, just kill me.

Just sketch the city. Your eye will get trained in perspwctive alone. No need to kill yourself

What does this guys actual art look like? When I google him another artist pops up and the only thing related to him is his course.

I found his facebook with his art inside.
just look up ErikOlsonArt

Going by feeling will take way more than going by feeling AFTER watching 60+ hours of tutorials.

At least he'll know what are his shortcomings and, if he needs to, he can go back to a lesson and learn to calculate stuff.

isometric perspective isnt needed, not sure what course youre looking at there...
if your vps are too close it looks weird, yeah. either put a sheet of paper behind and extend your hl onto that so you can put the vp further out, or try to get used to eyeballing it.
too many straight lines can look weird too though.

I literally can't do algebra but I can always find the cone of vision. It's waaaay easier than you think. Just learn and Practice. It's a little weird at first but it's really not hard.

If you want to be super accurate with perspective just use grease pencil.

Are they much better than, for example Vandruff's lessons?

it's that perspective used in 2d games to make them look simil-3d, I think

In the past year it seems the devs are taking it more seriously since everyone sees it as a key part of storyboarding and getting down ideas quickly.
latest talk at today's blender conference said they are dedicated to adding more tools and better integration in an animation pipeline.

you can draw in 3d. its pretty cool.
each line you draw can be converted to 3d also

using angles, yes. did tech drawing and we had triangle rulers with each side set to a specific angle. its what you use if youre taking schematics and translating it into a rendered image of the object.
ive never seen anyone mention 60,90,120 angles in 1/2/3 point perspective before.

I know what isometric perspective is, I'm just trying to understand why anon quoted me saying "not sure what course yo'ure taking" when I never mentioned it in the first place.
