Keep in mind I think a few people have changed their names since then, Sun for example is now Saucy.

Things have been kind of interesting, recently. I took a small break to sort of recharge and reassess, and things are looking up.

Recently, one of my siblings was considering telling a friend of his to join DAD so they could develop as an artist, and even after the typical normie-protectionist warnings/caveats that person was still interested.
They might join in a few months or so, but in the process of linking some submissions / challenges, I sort of looked back upon what DAD is, as a whole. There's a lot to take in, from the progress people have shown in the DAIB submissions, to the names that have grown familiar just by being with the community since Lava made the first site... I can associate certain mannerisms, ambitions and artistic motifs with various names on the site. I get thanked often for the way things unfold for people after they found DAD, but I still refuse to take much credit for it. I'm merely the third torchbearer to a project that I, myself, have benefited significantly from. It's the people, the community, and the individual efforts of the artists that make the site what it is. A special slice of the best parts of /ic/ where you can get direct, uncompromising critique as well as the vital encouragement to keep going. Maybe there's some merit to trying to make this the "next" ConceptArt, but we'll see.

From a development standpoint, there's a lot of small bugs and quality of life fixes that are starting to pile up in my queue, and as such I decided that I'm going to be decoupling the big Dec 25 patch from them. I'll be working on small functional improvements and fixes while gradually working on a visual overhaul to be delivered on that deadline. I figure that would be more productive and satisfying for the individual users in the end.

Yeah, sorry, I'm waxing poetic for absolutely no reason. I really just want to say thanks, DADdies. I'm proud of you, and I feel strangely optimistic about our future. And thanks, LavaFlake, wherever you are.

I know it's not the most popular opinion, but honestly I've had low effort days on DAD that I was ashamed of at the time, but I'm happy I never gave up on despite those. To me at least, 30 minutes has never been too hard to find, it's low enough that it acts more like a gentle reminder to never give up art than some threshold of effort that if I don't push myself hard enough every day I've failed. To me, low effort days aren't about maintaining a streak, it's more like keeping in touch with a friend, you can both go your own ways for a while to do you own stuff, but DAD is a way for me to never forget how much my metaphorical friend means to me. That even if I take some personal time and post 30 minute garbage for a day or two, I'd rather do that and come back refreshed and ready to push myself, than have given up and not be sure that I'd ever come back anyway.

Huh. I can sort of see why you mentioned Mixer. The policy is very clear, stuff that Youtube and Twitch can definitely learn from.
That aside, I'm standing similarly by this statement. Namely, if the average person would reasonably assume the depicted nude character to not be of age, then it is strictly off limits.
I've stated on a couple of occasions this policy, but there are three primary concerns. Succinctly, they are legal ramifications for myself (I'm a Canadian citizen and it is not out of the question for me to move back there), legal ramifications for users accessing the site (country laws differ, and some of them are highly punitive), and the general comfort of myself and the average artist sharing a site with such material (i.e., I'm drawing the line of 'obscenity' there, and this is not up for dispute).
It is important to note that this is not an ethical stance that I'm taking. I personally find such material highly distasteful, but there's no real harm actually caused in producing it. Some people have argued that it acts as an outlet for pedophiles, but others say it exacerbates it, but the jury is still out as studies have not been made on the topic.
There's also the topic of child nudity in fine art. I've actually been in a public art museum where I saw a painting depicting a woman and six baby angels with gigantic penises. Fucking hell, that was a shock. I can't remember the name of the piece. Either way, I cannot make arbitrary distinctions for "artful significance" on DAD.

TL;DR I'll echo Mixer: do not create sexualized or nude content using characters that appear to be under 18. In ambiguity, I reserve final judgment and the tribunal will be implemented soon.

So drawing a nude child, or drawing a nude child model are legal, but drawing a child masturbating, or having sex, or with giant inflatable genitalia, or just some sexual context is where legal trouble starts.
