First time posting in these threads. Day 13: ash. I've mostly just been coming up with technique or materials solutions to the prompts and just doing studies off photos since I'm short on actual ideas lately. Today I ground up charcoal ("ash") and added water to make a sort of ink and used it with a dip pen and brush to do a study off a photo reference. Face turned out like shit but I like the hair and some parts of the suit. The charcoal ink thing turned out okay. It lays down like an ink but once it dries it's just as delicate as regular charcoal. It is kinda neat how easily you can erase it though.

Repostan what I wrote on Twatter, hopefully to someone's benefit:

INKTOBER MELTDOWN? KEEP IN MIND:

1 There is no punishment here but your own consciousness. Do it digitally, skip 3 days, disobey the prompts. Who's gonna arrest you? Not me. As long as you don't cheat yourself, all's fine.

2 There is no award either. Take it easy, enjoy the ride. You're doing it for yourself.

3 You're doing it for yourself, right? Everyone and their grandmas are doing Inktober, the tag isn't magic (not anymore) and it isn't going to skyrocket your followers - save for a few lucky people. Most popular art you see are from already popular artists who don't need the tag.

4 Remember the 1st goal of Inktober: improving your art. You may not become Sakimi-chan in a month, but you'll be 31 drawings closer to your goal. If they all suck, congratulations! 31 pieces as a beginner give you way more noticeable gains than 31 drawings by a pro.

5 Remember the 2nd goal of Inktober: building good habits. Nowhere does it say you have to shit out a masterpiece every day. Fucked up big time? Forgive yourself and move on. Feeling low today? Call it a day and post it unfinished. Not punishing yourself is a good habit to build.

6 Don't use anything I said to slack off! You should still try and challenge yourself in ways that won't destroy your moral fiber. Positive stress is called eustress. Learning to manage it is also a good habit. Change rules if you must. For the greater good of GETTING ART OUT!

7 Finally, keep drawing!
Those drawings are not gonna make themselves.
Happy failures (and occasional successes), everyone.

>Genuinely interested to know what you used for the other days, did you post the result/methods somewhere else?

I haven't come up with something like this for every prompt, but like for "snow" I did stippling because it kinda reminded me of snow, and for "mindless" I thoughtlessly scribbled on a page and tried to find a figure in the mess, stuff like that. I've been posting on twitter, but my account is mostly not art stuff so I doubt anyone would be particularly interested.

This is probably the previous day I'm most fond of––day 8: frail. Another photo ref piece. I used watercolor that I knew lifted really well in a dip pen (the idea being that the medium is frail/fragile) and did a water wash over parts of the lines to blur/lift them and create shadows in some areas. Obviously the heavy dark ones weren't done this way. It didn't lift quite as well as it did in my tests (or I might have just not been as aggressive since it actually looked pretty decent).

You practiced drawing her a lot so now you've got her down pat, and can whip her out at any time. Like a mascot. You can make different characters while building on this base design. Maybe you can slip her in the background sometimes like an easter egg/filler character. And maybe in the future you can include her in a story as some artist android, or to deliver gags, or remake her into a character that fits the logic of whatever you're doing at the time. Whatever you choose to do you've built your own cute tool that you can file away for later. I think that when this month is over, when you look back after giving it a little rest, you'll be pleased you drew her so much

Only if you look hard can you tell the parts have very minor perspective misalignments, which you'll get better at anyway. The contrast between the light and toned parts works very well, and while nicely detailed it does not come across as over-complicated probably due to the nice and simple main body shape. Take this with a grain of salt but after looking at more of your work, I like your insect/frog characters a lot more than your human characters. Said insects are fantastic, I might add. Thanks for the feedback, anon. Yeah, I have a bad habit of drawing noses too big and beaky on humans. I've been trying to figure out how to balance them out, as I honestly do like drawing them a bit more on the prominent side compared to anime dot-noses. It is a kink in my art I have been trying to sort out, desu I have been doing no-noses for all the insect drawings just because I thought it would be interesting to try the look out for a while.

Yup, had to read your explanation. As a texture this looks amazing, Since we don't see the cones very well (out of frame), I assumed the black part was the beam of whatever (legs? tree trunk? etc.) Besides, he might be cross-eyed with those beam directions; thumbnail it the next time to avoid problems. Ultimately, you could make one beam in our faces (more circular) and the other one more lateral like that, or look at my next post for a composition idea.

The smudge was very intentional. I couldn't cover the rest because I ran out of ink. It's why I didn't fill the rest of the empty spaces in black or made the flame white to give it contrast.
