You can find the loomis books in just about every artbook mega/googledrive

A good thing. Most people never read them anyway and FWAP is the biggest crab trap ever. Now beginners can start with better books like Keys to Drawing and Huston Figure Drawing.

It's far too advanced of a book for people who are just starting to draw and it's not appealing by today's standards. The lessons in KtD are much better, more easily applied, and less rambling essays than FWAP. People recommend FWAP but it results in beginners quitting. Beginners think that's the best instruction there is to offer, and if they can't learn to draw from FWAP then they can't draw. It's outdated and immediately jumps into the deepend when a beginner can barely draw circles or boxes.

I actually think both fwap and ktd aren't good for beginners. I agree on your opinion on FWAP, but I think KTD develops a very flat approach to your subjects. I don't remember it ever mentioning building your figures up from simble 3d shapes and perspective is mentioned at the end of the book i think? Which is a bad sign imo.

I'd say KTD is good for people that never drew anything in their life and just want to draw some landscapes or go to live drawing classes for a hobby. Like some old lady that wants to draw or sth. I think dynamic bible, drawabox (to some extent...) and such are a more relevant version of KTD.

KTD develops a very flat approach to your subjects.
I recommend Keys because the most important thing to learn as a beginner is drawing what you see. Keys gets readers to draw things around them without the bullshit of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brian, gives them ways to measure or look at tones. It also shows that restating lines is ok, that you can sketch and still be happy with what you're drawing - not everything has to be perfect line art in a sketch.

You can't teach everything in one book. There's no need to bring in construction and more than basic perspective. That's what other books would be for. The first handful of chapters in Keys are worth reading through as a beginner. It helped me a lot as I never drew and have had success recommending it to others to break the ice.

After that I recommend Huston and How to Draw for getting deeper in perspective and figure if they're curious about learning more.

Currently going thru KTD, it makes alot of things obvious although it’s still going to take awhile to draw from observation accurately
