Digital ink is a zoomer term to try to save them face when they fail. A small bottle of in is no more that 5USD (mine was 25¢) and a brush is as inexpensive, same goes for paper, therefore the only reasoning people have to push "digital ink" is due to their worthless asses not willing to fail, wanting to forever have the digital failsafe.

Repeating this from a prior thread.

Challenge submissions can be LESS than 30 minutes only if on the day you submit them, you have submitted something else that brings your total allocated time up to 30 minutes or more. The 30 minutes daily is a DAD requirement.
To this end, challenge descriptions should try to be explicit in the amount of time spent, or least set a vague bar of expectation for effort needed. In general though, most challenges, should require submissions that take 30 minutes or longer. Judge as the situation requires.

Cool, thank you for clarifying that!
In that case I think that rules could be clarified a bit as well; right now they're saying:
>All submissions are expected to represent at least 30 minutes of concentrated effort
Doesn't that mean that every single one of submissions should be 30 minutes long?
Or is it me who have trouble with reading comprehension? (that's a honest question, not a sarcastic or a rhetorical one - I'm not a native english speaker and I could misunderstood that sentence. If rules seem completely clear to others then I'll shut up).

this, even fibinochi was let off like a dozen times and he's wasn't the /beg/iest /beg/, low effort cases had a very low "punishment" rate
most tribunal cases that actually succeeded in going through were cheaters with objective evidence of cheating, or minor things like fixing thumbnails or fixing a submission from safe to questionable

while I'm at it, 'punish' is a bit misleading of a word for it, because not all types of tribunal cases 'punished' the user's account
for example, someone being tribunalled for an incorrect content level doesn't really get any actual penalty or sanction on their account, their submission gets its content level fixed
'guilty' and 'innocent' are clearer than 'punish' or 'pardon'

>> No.4128450

Not the other anon but I'm bored and wanna crit too.

Saucy: Something about the hand on the hip seems a bit awkward, but I can't crit something like this well.
sola: I enjoy the quality of your lines. depends on what your goal is, but you could be a tad more confident with them.
rhomphy: look okay for now. a bit hard to judge because the scan is a bit too light, try adjusting the contrast next time. just keep at it.
Constanze: go back to fundies for a while. i can see you are working on proportions with the guidlines which is great, but you don't have a good idea of planes yet. shapes, study 3D shapes then go back to working on seeing those shapes in the human form. also stop hiding your hands! you need to draw them in order to get better! even if it looks weird just try to include them. ganbare my brother.
retard:nice crosshatching. its a good drawing, the vertical lines on the jacket make it look a tad messy though, either clean them up or get rid of them all together.
Meta Knight: cute. would also look nice if you really darkened the big areas of black even darker or with pen.
BanjoKazooie: i like it. my main problem is it looks like a blob of black from far away because the value in the witch is too similar. the values just need to be a bit lighter.
the1banana: it looks readable to me. i can't judge building plans very well.
konsui: its cute, maybe clean up the hair a little bit.
BanjoKazooie2: are they leaning forward? i think the shapes could be receding more. (neck should be thinner as it recedes, same with torso and hips.)
Nessie: i think you did a good job with the expressions, might just be a stylistic choice but some shadows in the white areas would look nice.
tsflipp: not bad, if i had to give you one thing to work on it would be ankle joints and wrist joints. you did well on the top right figure.

>> No.4128470

>>4128450
koki: im not really sure what you are trying to achieve from these. you should be a bit more methodical in your studies. if you are trying to simplify the human form into boxes, then do the entire body at different angles. they are somewhat legible, so i'll give you that.
dranandrom: its pretty cute, the eye on the right seems to be floating and not on a solid plane though. i'm guessing shes doing a duck face so that's the reason her lips are so high up.
CGraphite: pretty solid. only thing that stands out to me is here left arm seems a bit short or not in receding perspective enough. probably because her bent knee seems to be moving back pretty far, but the arm is relatively straight it's nearly horizontal which is no bueno.
fuck: i kinda like it. try not to cut off shapes like you did to the right. it should be within frame. also that circle at the top is bothering me because it looks like a guideline and not a stylistic choice.
BuniraPuni: its well done. mostly a stylistic thing, but i'm not a fan of how symmetrical it looks. i'd prefer to have an extended leg or something to break the symmetry, otherwise it looks like you just copy pasted and flipped horizontal. also i just realized after look at it for a while that their legs are bent and not just chibi legs. I definitely would like to see a bit of their calf/feet to distinguish this.
esca: i like the torso studies. i think the fat lady could use some more contrapposto, especially since she has a knee bent so high like that. it's also probably why you are having a difficulty drawing that leg in perspective. not sure the reference but pay attention to the back of the knee and that might help.
Pneuma: nice. would also be nicer if you added some dark darks and/or bright whites to really pop some of the planes.

>> No.4128473

>>4128450
fujo: i really like this because you added some darks. i love your work fujo but it would look so much nicer if you added some RARE darks to emphasize certain things. i would also get rid of the dark patch near the top right and replace it with a bright color. that way the eye goes there, toward his face, and then toward the book.

You need to play with lines then. Put some points and start practicing. Do it consciously. Watch your feels carefully.

Wobbly lines - speed up.
Miss the point - slow down.

I had a problem with the lines. I am trying to do ghosting, but lines still were wobbly. Only after a while did I understand what was happening. Before putting the line I did a little pause. But in fact, you should make the same movements, just suddenly lower the pen onto the paper. Without thinking, without aiming.

Aerce: I like what you think about the drawing process.
Agent: I like it what I can say.
AlmostGoodAtAnatomy: wish I was this perspective lines.
Amreio: heh.
Anvil: gonna steal your blender license.
Beanhead: not bad.
Bessiebee: agree with silvemis.
Brother-kun: I think you should take a softer pencil.
Cath: I do NOT like color of moneys, but everything everything else is very good.
Clapped: I think you could play with the lines a little more, angle is not the best, but nice work!
Clover: good morning, Clover!
Defunct: qt.
Eddin: I like it.
Grabstein: cast shadows is hard.
Hermit Slug: okay, buddy, you work gonna end in my ref collection, its so good.
Kanemi: good hands, but I feel pain when I look at some of them.
Kyoko: you broke her legs.
Moth: this nice shroom needs more dark color around.
MysticLog: simple and clean... and flat.
Nirest: speed up, maybe ask dads to help, I need it completed.
Notosh: I see construction, but some faces squeezed, please draw more.
Oneironaut: ominous look.
Paganini: simple and looks good for me.

Valley: stop warming up, make your dreams come true, just do it... no seriously, move on, you are stuck.
Varsils: lines good, do you draw icons, why some cubes are in reverse perspective?
VuSta: one hug, pls.
Whizzard: insanely cute.
Zeke: please start use line weight smartly.
awetos: I hope you come back, I'll miss you.
awful: line economy, when you start doing line art, you will encounter the fact that you have to choose from a dozen lines instead of one.
bezdomny: like it x2, teach me to draw.
brohambrosterninson: I have seen this before, do you and Amreio use one reference?
dare: super cute, do not give up.
echo: your works looks "wet" (???), but I like your values.
floop: use fewer lines.
furart: a little flat, but I like it.
gottagitgud: really want to see this when it is ready.
hoppy: games are nice, but I hope they won’t distract you from drawing.
j: lol.
juta: very clean, reminds me some traditional paintings.
kringlefkr: who gonna crit the criters, not me? What do you think to check questionable submissions on other screen, erase all forbidden parts, and still crit other, like 51ip did?
lazypotato: nice study.
mehmeh: I like your how are you using line weight!
meru: we will cry if you lose your streak, but don't let streak burn you out.
pink: good work, gonna stole your lines.
psiekier: I think that you need more defined focus point on your drawing.
silvemis: ask for help in discords.
tabascoshrimp: very cool.
tmart11: think more where are you putting lines, and make them thinner.

My dictionary is small but all your works are nice or good or cute in some way, dads. I saw so much pain in the descriptions. And I'm glad that you continue to draw despite all this problems.

I was like you for the longest time until recently. Then I remembered when I was a kid before heavy internet use that I just drew for myself and nobody else because I liked that particular thing. One day some kids came to my house because they liked my shitty drawings and paid me vending machine money to draw them a picture (it was pokemon stuff I drew out of a book). I thought to myself "huh? people like MY drawings??? WHY????"). Long story short with the advent of the internet I realized there are people obviously way better than me and then this hate crusade started to form for no reason and manifested over the years of hating random people. Then it became hating random people on /ic/ for a number of reasons not just their art. Then it became /las/ users. And then I realized why do I even care about a Lazypotato or a mehmeh or a sam I am anyway? Why am I even hating on these people? Why?

It was a one sided ego trip. A pretend rivalry I had in my head with the sea of artists. A never ending hate list of people. So I stopped caring and started drawing for myself again.

I'm kind of the same. I still build up these imagined rivalries and pointless hatreds of random people in my head though, even though I'm aware it's a terrible mindset to have. I want to break out of it but I've had it embedded in me for so long it's hard to escape.
I want to improve to make my work better for myself, but the thought of being superior to others artistically is what always makes me the most motivated to put my nose to the grindstone and really make gains. This is a really harmful way of thinking as it backfires when I see percieved rivals doing better than me and makes me into a crab. I hope I can someday break out of it like you, anon.

Nah you sound like a bitch. I realized the whole dad site community kind of had a stagnating air around it and realized the people I was comparing myself to were easy targets and it wasn't worth it. It's not your fault though, DAD is just really bad at retaining talented people. I'm browsing now and even good artists I saw months ago haven't posted in the past few days. It's just really not a good format, like idk if it's the ideology or what but it feels like a site just for asspats for doing the minimum each day (which most people don't even do).

Some people are competitive by nature and can use that to help them succeed. Your bullshit ideology where you just "draw for yourself" and ignore others is fine if you want to be a hobbyist but some people don't have such fragile egos that prevent them from improving themselves constantly. And there's nothing wrong with that mentality, it's just the way you push it off in a holier-than-thou preachy way that just perpetuates the stagnation here because you guys can't handle the idea of someone wanting to actually make it more than you.

Some people constantly look at others to get inspired. I just can't look here without getting demotivated.

Yeah, I know I should fix it up. It's a shame I don't have any professional grade paints for the job - my shitty, cheap ones don't have enough pigment to do it (I'd need 7-8 layers of paint to completely cover up that fugly grass).

The bigger the canvas is, the more texture you can put in and the more realistic final result looks: when you work on a small piece of paper there's only so many brush strokes you can fit there.
If you'll read descriptions of old paintings, you'll notice that most of them are really huge.
Also that's one of the reasons why beginners are advised to work bigger.

Whenever I study something I get tense and anxious and wonder if I'm studying it the right way, how long I should focus on this aspect of it, etc. and it's so paralyzingly even trying to practice sometimes.

Many people on /ic/ seem to fall for this. What resources should you study, in what order, how long etc. I think it's pretty stupid because these factors won't have that much of an effect on you.
I think those people are just scared to draw, and rationalize those fears with "I'm just taking time to research this before I start" and then keep hoarding resources and doing nothing. Don't over think it.
I compare myself with other people all the time, but the difference is that I do it in order to learn. I don't care if they're better because it doesn't affect me in any way. I care about what they're doing differently that I am not.
You say you've been drawing for years, so maybe you're just underestimating yourself, like most do.

I dunno if I'm underestimating myself. I guess what keeps me going is seeing that what I did last year looks significantly more awful than what I'm doing now, but that's kind of a double edged sword because I'm still pretty bad. Two years ago (and even last year) I wasn't even using my time efficiently nor drawing daily, so it's no wonder I improved by actually drawing... but I'm always doubting if my methods can carry me far enough.

I don't really hoard resources either. I do studies but I'm always wondering if I'm focusing on the right thing, if I'm wasting my time, if I need some prerequisite knowledge to study x first, if I accidentally learned something the wrong way, and so on. It's all second-guessing because I don't want to fall into the common beginner traps and accidentally do something really retarded. I'm only now understanding the real importance of some stuff, but that just scares me further- what else don't I know? What if I'm going to be bad forever because I'm not reading into this thing the right way? Things like that.

There's such an abundance of information and I don't know what to trust, so I feel like I'm spinning my wheels and doing useless shit no matter what direction I try to go in. You're right that I'm too scared to do something, but it's not like I'm sitting around reading instead of drawing- I am drawing, but the problem is I feel like I'm uselessly drawing or focusing on the wrong things no matter what I do.

Na that last post wasn't me.
But I do agree with it, Fussing over what resource is the best to learn from is a symptom of fear from actually sitting your ass down and studying.
Recognize that you're making excuses, gain some clarity and just do what you know you need to do to improve.

Look at your own art, see what's wrong with it, and study the relevant information"
