You are paying a company to host the data for your website so that it will be accessible to other people on the internet.
I personally use GeekGhost, though it's not great and there are a lot more. Google "website hosting" to find yourself some lists of companies and do your research.

I have been drawing webcomic for the last ~12 ys, generally I like to come up with a general arc and design the characters and then simply go. Most of the time, characters develope organically in the story, even if I planned differently for them. I stick to my story, but I don't write complete scripts since most of the time I have to change too much anyway.

It's propably not the most professional approach, but as far as I read up on it, many authors stick to something like this so allow their characters to breath.

Besides, if you just start, you at least fucking start.

I feel like a lot of the problems with political and deep philosophical themes are how directly they are dealt with. Being subtle is key. Otherwise it feels like you are reading a lecture with occasional pictures. Making a theme so subtle that normies don't even know its there is fine. Plenty of books do that all the time.

Hey.
Did this a few months ago as a mock-up cover for a sf project that has been sleeping in my cardboard boxes for a while.
I've got a whole chapter done writing-wise, and enough material for like 2 or 3 more, but i intend to have them work as one-shot as well as much as I can.
No idea how I should do it artwise, painting or more classical (lines and stuff). I'll need to do waaay more test before even thinking about starting the whole comic.
Things haven't been going well lately so it's not a really good time to work on this kind of project if I intend to take it seriously anyway.

Not that other anon, but that sucks.

If what i think you're implying is what happened, be sure to take a lump sum up front, then milestone payments, then the final amount upon completion and delivery. Like a 30%, 20%, 20%, 30% type of deal, or at the very least 50% first, 50% after, with your next jobs.

I’ve been working on a comic for the past 4 fucking years literally non-stop. I was so inspired by the story I quit freelancing and got a day job because I knew it would take some time to learn to write. In that time I’ve labored over this story so much that ever corner, from the underlying philosophy to the visual design is laid out. But I’m still stuck on chapter one...

I swear I’ve rewritten the first chapter over 30 times in the last 4 years, and just recently I’ve realized that this project is too big for me to chew at this moment. Me starting off with this project as a newly in writing is the equivalent of a begining game dev trying to create Destiny 3 with no previous coding knowledge or projects.

I’ve read Stephen King on writing twice.

I’ve thumbed through Arakis manga in theory and practice countless times.

I have Scott mcclouds making comics, Scott mcclouds understanding comics, and Scott mcclouds reinventing comics on my bookshelf beside me right now and atleast one is always open.

I approached this thing all wrong and I need to take baby steps. I guess what I’m trying to say is that we all need to make baby steps with this.

Writing is a completely different skill than art and in my experience (thinking skills would crossover)I’d say it’s as different basketball and cooking.

We have to start small. Two page stories studying one aspect of writing: dialog, dramatic scene, funny scene, etc.

One page stories

3 panel stories

Coming up with a story based on a prompt in less than 20mins.

This is how I think I will, and maybe you can too one day tackle that magnum opus story of yours.

I mean think about it. These short one page stories are essentially the same as a fundamental shape drawing.

If you’re inspired by this thread make a 3 panel story and post it here. 2 hrs work time max. Lets get it boyos

I'm a year into my own, The Concord Initiative. 18th century historical fantasy. A young, impressionable, haunted king tries to spark a nationalist movement in his declining Empire. He starts a controversial program to do so. The situation degenerates as civil unrest intensifies.

I've finished my first chapter--100 pages. 2 pages a week for a year or so. Now, I'm on a three month hiatus making supplementary material and sorting out logistics of expanding the project!

Right now, I'm also going back and touching up/tweaking past pages that are not up to snuff. I don't have time to redraw them, but I can add color. But most of all, I need to rewrite a ton of dialogue. That stuff never comes out right the first few times.

where can a furfag-capitalizing porn comic artist (not furry myself) actually post their shit outside of furaffinity and inkbunny where it can get some actual traction. Most normal webcomic sites I've checked do not allow porn comics. I have no idea how to exploit the twitter game.
I've already released it and it did pretty well in getting me more followers, but I'd like some more eyes on it. It was already a commissioned work, so I'm not really looking to do that patreon-only release.
My next commissioned comic will be releasing sometime before the end of the year, so I'd like to know if there's a good place for them out there.

I liked you pic but your comic looks nothing like that. Work on your line weight, because it's all over the place, and don't leave lines broken, it looks clumsy. The saturated random colors are quite annoying, study colours and paint from life to understand them at least a bit, if you're more focused on storytelling then just do b&w. Comics are more about the content but your art stops me from immersing in it.

Anyway, I'm thinking about making a comic because I just want to get the characters out of my head already. My problem is, I have trouble writing in arcs/issues, my ideas are more about daily random shit and it feels very forced when I try to compose a longer story. I did like 15 small pages with 2 panels, just to start something, my friends really liked them but the format started feeling inconvenient. My autistic nature forces me to plan beforehand before I start putting in effort but the story is entirely character driven, how the fuck I balance that?

Not art-related but for a webcomic with an ongoing story how far do you prepare the full plot before actually starting work on the comic? I feel like I keep procrastinating because I'm unable to come up with ideas for the story. For the webcomic I'm working on, I've planned out the entirety of the story, especially the ending--it's good to have the ending, so you at least know what you're working towards.
In terms of plot points, I've listed down every point that drives the story forward--in a way, I've written it like a wikipedia story summary, except dot point form.

How wide is the scope of your plot points? Can you give any examples of them? Because the less connecting points you have, the harder it is to fill those gaps.

Also, the webcomic I work on is this one--feel free to look through it.

maybe it's just me but it takes way too long to get anything rolling here. Unless you're an incredible artist and just trying to show off what you can do visually (which, no offense, but with these thumbnails, clearly isn't the case), there's no reason to have 4 whole pages before there's anything to actually read. What I'd suggest:
>combine p1 and 3, putting the 1 text in the top left blank spot
>find a way to cut down p4 and 5. Lots of unnecessary exposition panels that you could fit on a different page
>ditch the 3 panel grid layout or disperse it better. Add more vertical panels. Horizontal only is boring after a few pages, but it's the majority of your book
>the bottom of p8: you're never supposed to make a speech bubble tail or connecting line cross over a character unless you have no choice, but you've got more than though room for it behind the rabbit thing instead of in front, right beside the bigger bubble, and it would read the same
>move the eyes panel from 11 into the bottom corner of 10 and turn 11 into a big reveal page. There's no need to see that much of the fat guy with that much free space behind him
just off the top of my head, at a glance. A big cityscape works as an opening since you're establishing the setting, but I'd make the main focal point building from panels 4 and 5 clearly visible in panel 3. It would allow you to just sort of zoom in on it and cut a lot of the clutter in those pages. Your entire story is horizontal like I said, which is stiff and boring. Even if the writing or art were spectacular, it wouldn't be fun to read. The pages where you do use more than 3 panels still has the 3 panel layout, just with slight variations. Why so many plain black pages? Are they placeholders or for dramatic effect? If so I'd add some filler visuals looking back into the room leading into p15. Do a zoom in on a window or something, then your page 15 image, and possibly end with a zoom in on the cassette player, and you can just cut p16

I tried once a week in the beginning, but being a wage-cuck takes it's toll and I now more comfortably update about every two weeks. This is already leaps and bounds better. I like the panel variations a lot more and you appear to have tackled pretty much every issue I listed. Just remember, 3 panel grids are your friend too. Don't completely stop using them because of my previous comment. You just can't use the same grid layout in succession too much. The only thing I'd change about this one is the perspective on the fence panel on page 1. Maybe do a somewhat elongated shot in 1 point perspective and add a shadow on the ground pointing towards it. If you go with this, possibly put the above panel's building inside a vague diamond frame to simulate the viewer looking at it through a fence, making panel 3 feel like more of a zoom out. The fourth panel on p3 (above big rabbit in bottom corner) has room for that word balloon to come outward if you need the space. Remember, the images should be limited to panels, but the words can expand as far as you need them to. Fat guy talking in p5 panel 5 can overlap that hand above, for another example. One other tidbit though, I know I told you to fit more on each page to eliminate useless pages, but don't forget to give readers some time to rest and relax. Landscape pages/panels or just big panels with little dialogue mixed in can go a long way. You had a lot of them at first, but they were all at the beginning, and one at the end, but if this is the beginning it can be excused since you need to get the story rolling.

In any case, I enjoyed skimming through these panels a lot more. You did good to improve.

>>4133646
You definitely need work on your fundamentals. If you sharpened your style, and I came across your page, I'd at least have a look around and throw you some likes. Right now you definitely don't have it though. Try Fun with a Pencil by Andrew Loomis. Most anime styles can be broken down into the Loomis formula.

What makes your digital art better? ctrl+z? You're only helpless because you're choosing to be helpless. Get better on paper meanwhile saving up money for a better computer or replacement parts. Shit happens. Your comic is gonna be postponed anyways now. Plus if you decided to do some filler comics first in the summer and then wait until November to do more, you were planning on having downtime anyways. So are you just gonna sit and stagnate because now you "can't" draw until your computer is fixed? Get better on paper and try to get some commissions. Then use that money to buy what you need, and after practicing to get good enough to sell commissions, your comics will benefit from it. You don't have to do the comics on paper if you don't want to, but ignoring paper overall is just dumb, especially when your shit is busted.

>>4133375
if you have a good sized reader base, you can get away with 1 every 2 weeks, or do a panel a week or something. Just don't let them starve. What I do is think about shit that I want to happen in my comic while I'm wage cucking myself. You definitely need to speed things up though. Would you mind posting a panel of your work and telling me how long it took you? If you're willing, don't bullshit me. Give me a panel that falls in the middle of the pack as far as detail goes.

>> No.4134368

nah it's stabilisers, i have fucked hand-eye coordination so my art on paper looks super dodgy. that wasn't what i meant anyway, i can still draw digitally and i've been taking commissions to save up for the components, just not on larger canvases with loads of different layers/folders so working on something like a comic page causes it to crash. i do traditional stuff as well, i just don't show it anywhere. there's a reason why i specifically said i wouldn't be happy publishing that. i might try duping down on the resolution and make it black/white for now

I don't have a lot of followers, but enough to make me feel a little proud, haha. It's always nice to get some actual response to things you create, and I'm lucky to get that. I'm afraid I won't post any of my own work, I like my anonymity a bit too much, but my style is... think Jeff Smith, just shittier and with some shading. Hard to give an estimate on time, I draw a little here and a little there... but I still know I'm slow as ass. And since it's un-payed hours, I have to have fun doing it and want to do it. On some days (like today) I'm just too goddamn tired after work to even think about lifting the stylus!

>> No.4134638

>>4134431
which Jeff Smith style? He has a few. Cartoony, monsters which land sort of in the middle, or his more serious (by comparison) works? If it's closer to the cartoony style, you really should work on your work ethic because to be entirely honest there's no reason to not put out a page or so a week. The simpler your characters and/or backgrounds are to draw (and/or the less complex your story is), the more you should be posting. Work to be able to draw your own shit accurately, faster. You can't wait to be motivated because otherwise nothing gets done. 3 hours have passed since you posted that reply. Plenty of time to unwind and do whatever, and then pick up the stylus. Hell bring a notepad and pen with you wherever you go and just doodle during waiting periods. Doodling in pen removes the take-backs, so when you fuck up one doodle, you'll know what not to do on the next one. Plenty of time in the day can be utilized that we typically overlook, and especially if your characters are simple, you can utilize it to get faster. Draw them from different angles, doing different things, etc.

>>4134368
do 1 panel per file and then overlay 5 or 6 of them on an actual page, perhaps? I get not wanting to publish traditionally, it really is a pain in the ass by comparison.

i'd rather release this thing unfinished and move on rather than getting stuck polishing things forever, but i don't know... any advice?

It will bother you immensely if you rush it. Finish it well, and you will feel secure in moving forward. As with most creative projects, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

here's a recent redesign of one of my characters, her left arm is going to be a bit more bulkier in the comic and more obviously segmented. need to work on making poses less stiff and boring

Why not use it was reference instead and add your own artistic spin to it?

you might want to redesign this so it has more shapes and less patterns, redrawing the arm and that korra buttcape are going to become very unfun after the first few panels

i'm just going to simplify a lot when it comes to it since i have a good idea of how that'd look anyway. the patterns aren't very time-consuming to draw since i draw them pretty quickly with loose strokes

There was some guy back then that said using certain fonts are not allowed. How true is this ?
I'm using Krita. I'm gonna add common fonts like DigitalStrip, Wildwords, Zud Juice, and CC Astro City.
