>What is /ALT/?
>If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>>Rules & Guidelines
>(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.
>>I came for anime. Why does the image OP say cartoons general?
>To distinguish from the anime study thread (janitor supported). Please post your studies there and personal work goes here.

You should work on your construction and anatomy, friend. I like your stuff but you have a lof of misshapen features. Those collarbones are a bit odd looking, and your hands and feet look consistently very lazily done. You could make really good stuff if you put in a little more effort to get the anatomy and forms correct

its not too late, I figure I just needa do this? connect the value, extend the outline straight across the wrist and add an internal outline to indicate weight. that's a quick fix, I'm trying to figure out what background I want to add cause it's kind boring just being a chair and a wall. Fuk you're so based. I'd say draw more scenes or do comics, because judging on descriptions and drawings you could make good stories. If you're happy with your job then maybe don't bother, but I'd say your style is consistent and cool enough to be a part of some projects like games (board, card, computer). I don't want to impose but your drawings are so lively it would feel like a waste not to spread them around and use for something. I just want you to grow

I like this a lot, but I feel you should consider your use of negative space, silhouette, and value some more. A lot of elements blend together, parts of the leaves merge into the clouds, parts of the clouds merge into the hill in the background, and parts of the water merge into the foreground hill. If you were more deliberate with the value of your hatching and used it to break up your elements better I think you could make some really great landscape sketches

I literally do not have a style of my own. I draw like different people constantly, i dont have a comfortable house style i settle into when im drawing for myself. this had made it incredibly hard to gain a following on social media as people expect consistency. what should i do? does anyone else have this problem?

Try character design maybe. Choose/create a world and create a bunch of character with short, like 2-3 line descriptions. And then try to draw them in different situations keeping faithful to the original design. Don't forget to also design backgrounds.

>> No.4105212

>>4105195
don't worry about it and don't focus on it. intentionally locking yourself into an artificial style that you don't understand and haven't developed is going to hurt and become very limiting down the line when you figure out better methods of stylization, simplification, rendering, etc that you will stop yourself from trying because "oh it doesn't match the house style rules I set for myself 3 years ago".

copy and take bits and pieces from whoever and whatever you like and over time and with practice you will settle into a rhythm of doing things and develop a consistency.

this is not to say that you can't be thematically consistent, or world-consistent. you can easily focus on horror, or depression-era america feels and topics to get something running through your work.

Here's a quick paintover, sorry for the sloppiness of it. The biggest issue I see is that you aren't thing about color in terms of shape. Early on in the painting it helps a lot of do block-ins of your basic colors and tones, with more focus on the overall shapes of the colors rather than blending/rendering. This allows you to make sure your values work and your forms make sense before you jump into rendering and playing with your edges.

>>4105279
I honestly agree with this. Value is very important, and while many people say it's better to approach value before learning color it's perfectly possible to learn them concurrently. What you need to do, though, is constantly make a greyscale versions of your image to see if the values have clear contrast with one another until you're able to train your eyes to see value well.

i know this is a shitty attempt at fixing your stuff. the main issue i noticed was how short your character looks. it seems as if this wasn't deliberate. i also tried making sense of your poses in the way you drew them. not the way you wanted them to be, but enough to show why they look odd. anatomy wise, i didn't change anything. the arms are beefy as fuck in pose # 2 compared to #1, and your abs in both look like a halloween costume with muscle pads inside the lining. might be from blurring/ airbrushing your colors when youre only using 2 colors total per surface, like with cel shading.

"agitating" is my way of saying they're not blaring issues, but issues nonetheless. otherwise, i think we have pretty similar art styles. are there any artists youre trying to emulate?

fair enough. I don't necessarily disagree either. Although I just wish you would've better expressed that in your initial post lol

It's not necessary to shoot for the most patronizing tone because we're on a 4chan board and everyone is faceless or some are acting like assholes. I get that this place reinforces the worst habits in some of us, but keeping things more sincere and in good nature will have a higher chance of being well received. Not telling you how to express yourself obviously, just a suggestion.
