Looking at the photo - if it's not a staged photo, and he really worked off photos after an initial session to capture the pose and lighting, he's focusing on the overall piece - he can still capture the lighting overall on her leg, even though the pose is off. He's pretty much done with the face, so she doesn't have to recreate the exact angle.
When you take figure study classes, you learn this when you do poses over a multiple session - after the initial blocking stage, you can get the model back close to the first session, and still get what you need in terms of lighting - and make up the small details that might have changed. Posing a model isn't just doing an oil painting photo - you can use all of it, or some of it. If you need to revisit an area, you have the model get back into the same position, or close enough, so you can see where the highlights in the hair would be, for example.
