Fuck all that anime shit lets talk about Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, and everyone else who does stuff like this.

Also, Miller’s art is fantastic (unlike his usual shit) - but quite heavily ripped off Hugo Pratt.

I can answer that... it's because people who like anime (or, more specifically, fucking weebs) get shit on a lot both irl and on non-anime-specific online communities. So when there's some banter on this board that panders to animebois like they're the ones keeping it afloat, they automatically revert to their regular REEEEE state.

They're like those dogs who can't tell the difference between being beaten and getting pats because their owner abuses them.

I hate that he completely gave up in recent years. Hellboy in Hell looks like he drew basic layouts on a napkin and just inked them. Still surprisingly visually striking but nowhere close to where he was in that window between Wolves of Saint August and Conqeuror Worm.

The closest ive seen is some anime deliberately riffed on Hellboys style for one of its ending credits sequences and went full Mignola aesthetic and it looked fucking incredible.

Other than that, probably Takeshi Koike stuff and some Madhouse stuff, like two of the Animatrix shorts Program and World Record (pic related), and Redline come close, he's done more stuff so theres probably more of his shit you can look at there.

Also its not technically anime but the Black Dynnamite animated series had some of that flair.

The great thing about his art, is how light it feels to me, like doodles could be, but without loosing any of its expressiveness.

The tricky thing about Pratt's style is how loose his hand seemed to be when you see the final product. He really seems to be sketching. But the whole picture has been very carefully planned and worked to the point of perfection. For instance check out how much action and personality he puts in things like drawing hands. The whole expression of the character is often centered in their hands instead of just the face or the posture.
