IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Logic? Perhaps I might suffer from lack thereof. It might be that I make the bottom half of the face too long leaving too much space between the bottom of the nose and chin, though I'm not completely sure if that's the problem. Will try adjusting that.

Also is no much point in fo the torso because is nothing there actually, only the boobs, an if you want to do the conections to the arms and neck, then you should focus on that instead, in the muscles and construction of the neck and the armpits, thats why i said was simplistic.

Yeah you are misunderstanding the book because the one thing it tries to teach you is that everyone can learn to draw what they see. It even makes several examples of the drawings people made before and after using the techniques.
You should stick with it and complete ALL the exercises until you get it, and you WILL get it.

- Find a good tilted setup that works for you. Your drawing looks stretched vertically and a bad setup is often a reason why.
- Use guide center lines coming from the head to the bottom of the pelvis, from the shoulders to the wrist and from the pelvis to ankles to help you figure out where everything will go then use basic shapes like cubes, cilinders, squares, triangles etc to add volume before you add detail. This way you have time to fix things before committing to the design.

You'll probably find this stuff in Loomis.
Good luck.

Essentially, there's nothing *specifically* on this as it's usually a part of perspective courses or whatever. I hope you got a CG Peers account; if not, look into registering.

Your shopping list should roughly include:

Perspective Made Easy ( Ernest Norling ) - has a bunch of perspective exercises

How to Draw ( Scott Robertson ) - shit's anything but a how-to, use it as a reference textbook and not something to go through cover to cover, it's about as dense as an engineering primer

Drawabox (it's on reddit) - the first few lessons deal with abstract form and shapes in perspective and not animals and shit, so it's okay

Erik Olson's NMA Perspective course - probably the MOST comprehensive overview of perspective I've seen in the past four years. Courses 1-10 and 11-16 are on CGPeers. They're divided like that according to Aguri's 1 year to git gud guide, but nvm that.

You should go and independently research books on industrial design and car drawing books/videos (Scott Robertson has like a quadrillion of these)

And worst of all none of these will do exactly what you want them. You have to learn how to study these things yourself. Wanna learn how to extrude shit out of other shit? Watch a few perspective videos, download Google SketchUp, and start studying your weaknesses from "real" life

probably the best thing you can do as a beginner is drawing still life. draw multiple objects in one scenes, it is important to be able to draw things in relation to each other. draw your bedroom floor with articles of clothing laying around, meticulously creating the folds in the fabric. draw a bookshelf or desk from multiple angle and note how much larger the closer side appears and the seemingly impossible angles the edges make

And I'm aware I find that my big weak point is not a good grasp on proportions. Just confused if I keep trying to get perfect gestures will I be spending too much time on something that could be improved if I went forward on torso studies. i usually never use vanishing points and instead i use boxes but is not as accurate as vps but isnt that bad either

but before going into perspectiver you need to know in deep about whatever the fuck you are about to draw because even if your landmarks are 100% correct and you dont know shit about what are you drawing it will come as trash, right now i can see that your fundies are garbage desu theres no point for you trying perspective because your anatomy right know is below beg even if you master perspective it wouldnt matter because your knowledge about anatomy is bad

This can be seen in the photo on the right vs your drawing of the photo. The distance between the main body and the arm are far greater in the photo than they are in your drawing

Thanks for the reply man and I know what you mean.

The reason it turned out like that was because I couldn't wrap my head around the pose, the shapes that would comprise it and how they would work in 3d space. Shit got muddled up and I improvised.

If you look at the ref the hips are pretty much side on but if you look at my drawing it's like you're looking down at them at a 3/4 view. This kind of lead to me doing the whole drawing in that sort of view.

Ofcourse now that I say this and look at it I realise that that doesn't work with how I drew the feet and legs. Also on the left side I think I drew the shins too short and thighs too long.

Can anyone else see any big fuck-ups?

I really need to study how all the bits actually fit together.

Gee anon way to contradict me. But it'd be much worse on photoshop, that's my point. The thick brush makes it look intentional to me, I see a lot of pixiv anime sketches like that with thick line weight and some messyness that makes it look like they did it quickly. Of course they know how to draw better than me but it's the same principle.

I tried. You need a lot more than just the arms, the torso is squished incredibly small pretty much everything under the chin is squished like he would be turning into a midget. The parts of the face are misplaced and do not align, the arm is too short or in a weird angle and you cannot move your hand into that position.

The hair is nice and you placed the ear well, to add some positives too it.

Get a sense of the lay of the land. Plan your route. Head out. Make adjustments if you hit any roadblocks.
Following along the contour is the equivalent of not planning anything. heading out. getting lost in the woods and eaten by bears.
